The question that must be answered is this: will this device allow you to play all the songs in your Itunes library wirelessly, or does it limit you only to what will fit on it’s 40GB hard drive.  If it’s the latter, it ain’t worth it.

Does anyone know if there is a cable to convert component video to composite or S-video in order to use this device with a regular TV?

Hmm….Let me see if I get this right…I buy TV shows and movies from iTunes so I can play them back on my TV…I think they have this whole thing backwards.

Get Tivo-to-go it works much better.

No. It doesn’t record anything. You buy content from the internet (iTunes). It’s essentially a 40GB iPod Video without the screen & clickwheel.

Get a DLO homedock and iPod video instead. That way you can literally watch something on your TV then watch the rest on your iPod.

If you don’t need a remote, just buy a video cable (20 bucks) and plug the iPod video directly to your TV.

it has HDMI out but you are getting sub-par standard DVD quality from iTunes?!...assuming you can get HD quality somewhere online, can this thing handle it?  if so, 40gb is way too small…

they haven’t added any HD quality video on iTunes yet have they?  (i did now see where this thing outputs 720p) but that isn’t available yet, right?

so, this device is for sale is australia, but we can’t acutally buy any video content from the iTunes store yet (aside from a few music videos).

would be good to know if divx videos can be streamed / played through this device.  if not, people outside of the u.s will have little use for it and zero incentive to buy it.

for the time being i’ll just keep plugging my computer direct into tv.

I was looking forward to this, but for me, it’s a total bust.

I want one unit that does everything A/V. It should play DVDs, organize my music libraries, and replace the clutter of separate DVD and CD players. This just adds one more box to my A/V rack.

I vote for a Mac Mini.

Is this thing was a fraction of the cost it would be a success.  It should be cheap too, it’s all about buying content from itunes.  People pay $50 for DVD players these days, they get free cable boxes from there cable company.  This is a very cool idea, but not for the masses by any means.

Minor point but as it’s designed to get Apple into the living room they could have offered it in black too.  This white(or is it silver version) would look so out of place with my all black AV equipment.
