Apple has released an update to its MobileMe Gallery application for iPhone and iPod touch devices. MobileMe Gallery 1.1.1 adds support for downloading higher-resolution images when using an iPhone 4 on a Wi-Fi network. The update also notes additional bug fixes, and although no mention is made of iOS 4 support the update appears to add Fast App Switching capabilities as well, although no other specific iOS 4 multitasking features are available. MobileMe Gallery allows iPhone and iPod touch users to view photos and movies from their own and their friends’ MobileMe Galleries in a manner similar to the built-in Photos app. Previously viewed photos are cached on the device so that they can be viewed even without an Internet connection, and links to albums and photos can be e-mailed out directly from within the app. MobileMe Gallery is available from the App Store as a free download for the iPhone and iPod touch and although the current version runs on the iPad, an iPad-native version is not yet available.

Who else findings it disappointing that Apple’s apps weren’t (a) updated as universal binaries for iPad by the time of the iPad launch, (b) updated for iOS4 with support for fast-app switching, retina display, and (where appropriate) backgrounding by the time of the iOS4 launch.
How could Apple have possibly dropped the ball on this so badly? It’s supposed to be so easy to port your apps to iPad and iOS4, right? Right? That’s what they’ve been telling us developers anyway.

Agreed. While not all apps are necessarily a “good fit” for the iPad, it’s very odd that an app like MobileMe Gallery, which emphasizes photo display and would look great on the iPad, still hasn’t been ported over.
However, I would think that they should all be getting the iOS 4 Fast App Switching treatment, in the very least. The biggest limitation of the Apple Remote app right now, for instance, is that it has to take time to reload and reconnect every time you return to it.
My guess is that Apple’s third-party app development team has been focusing on apps like the iWork set and may have limited resources for any of their other apps.

I was SO excited to see Mobile Gallery app updated.
Then, I looked at it.
Seriously? Still a freakin’ iPhone/iPod app? No iPad version?
This is truly insane. Apple - you’d better get your sh*t together soon. This latest bunch of SNAFU’s is getting to feel like a company based in WA.
Sincerely, Apple fan since 1985.

MobileMe has always lagged behind Apple’s other products, but the above posters are exactly right—it is utterly absurd for Gallery to not support the iPad. It’s also crazy that the redesigned MobileMe website isn’t usable on the iPad. MobileMe is not worthy of Apple, and certainly not worthy of Apple’s customers.

MobileMe web site not compatible with Safari on the iPad? Is this a joke?
The iPad was obsolete since Apple announce iOS4.
Why it takes so long to make the upgrade available for the iPad?
