Apple has updated its Remote application for the iPhone and iPod touch to version 1.3. In addition to its prior functionality as an iTunes and limited Apple TV remote, the new version allows users to control their Apple TV’s menus via a new “Control” menu, that turns the iPhone or iPod touch into a multi-touch remote control, resembling the trackpads of current-model MacBook Pro computers. Remote 1.3 is available now as a free download from the App Store. Screenshots of Remote v1.3 can be seen in this news article.

I may actually consider getting an tv now..,
...as soon as I get a good TV (which hinges on the cable company giving me good service), the price drops, and DVD ripping is legalized.
Any chance identical functionality could go into the next iTunes/Front Row update? That’d pwn. (which OS3 corrects to “own”... get with it, apple!)

Onoewan how did you make that apple logo?

Unicode special character F8FF that I copied and pasted from another site.
To type it on a Mac the key combination is ⌥+Shift+K.
Note that most non-Apple fonts won’t display it correctly.

Very disappointed to find that it only works with 3.0 software. I am hesitant to change it to 3.0 and loose my video cable connection that works perfectly with 2.2 (not the apple one)

Okay, that’s just SWEET! Just downloaded both updates. For some reason, Apple still hasn’t put a convenient ‘standby’ button here, or, on the remote mapping feature on AppleTV. That’s my only nit…AppleTV is so awesome.
