New accessory developer Belch Co. has introduced the Carbon Fiber Case ($50) for the second-generation iPod nano, a modified carbon fiber design intended to look good and offer a higher degree of protection than prior carbon fiber cases. Founded by two Purdue University Engineering students, Belch made these cases so that protective tabs on the top and bottom keep the iPod inside while at the same time providing access to the player’s controls and docking port. Similar cases for other iPod models are planned to debut later.

$50 is way too much to ask for this case IMHO.

I see it already dropped to $45, then to $40.
Still too much IMO.
$20 - $25 seems more appropriate to me.

I love carbon fiber - bikes and trim on cars. I’d happily pay $40 for this case if it had a detachable clip.

B. Mick, carbon fiber is an expensive material. Considering that $20-25 seems to be the price of a typical iPod case made out of silicon or polycarbonate or whatever, these don’t seem outrageously priced for a more expensive material. It’s one thing to say that you just don’t feel like spending $50 on an iPod case, but it’s another to say that it is overpriced, because that implies they are charging more than it is worth, and I don’t see any evidence for that.

Neat-looking case. But $50 does seem like a bit much for an already aluminum-shelled iPod, even if it’s oh-so-trendy carbon fiber. And that it doesn’t have integral screen protection really seems chintzy for the price being asked.
The price for being kewl, I suppose.
