In addition to custom-painted iPods, ColorWare is now offering an Apple iPod Dock that has been professionally painted in black to perfectly match the U2 Special Edition iPod. The custom-colored Dock is priced at $61. Like the standard $39 Apple Dock, the black unit allows charging and syncing via FireWire or USB 2.0, and features a stereo line out port.

that fully explains how you can make your own black dock, without paying a sick $22 extra.

Just another example that the profits are in the peripherals and not the product. Us consumers are so obsessed by our little music machines we’ll pay it too!!!

Professionally painted?
lol. a quick spray paint no doubt.
Surely the paint will start to wear away at the point where the ipod touches the dock.

I own a 3G ColorWare painted iPod (Blush pink) and the finish is spectacular. It’s like a high quality automotive gloss finish. Certainly not Jethro’s Backyard Krylon treatment.

I own a 3g and a 4G Coloware Carbon (black) with docks and the finish is high quality and very smooth. It is a better feel and finish than the standard iPod finish. There has been no wearing off of the color on the dock nor the iPod. It does cost

Wow! What a rip! I’d sooner paint the dock myself or just deal with the white dock… I mean, what’s wrong with the white dock anyway??
If you’re that much of a anal fashion wh0re to need a black dock to match your black U2 iPod and pay $61 to get one then we need to get you out of the house more… I know everybody wants to look at nice things but for $61 for a stationary brick that offers nothing but a place to stand your iPod up vertically (and a weak line out)?? Come on!

What’s worse…The extra $22 these guys are charging for painting it, or…the $39 Apple is charing in the first place?
