Bose is now shipping the complimentary iPod nano cradle inserts for its SoundDock speaker system. While new SoundDocks now come with the nano insert in the box, previous owners of the speaker system must order the free insert which allows them to use their nano properly with the system. Bose has yet to offer details on an insert specifically for the new fifth-generation iPod. It is not known if or when the company will offer such an insert.

I got my SoundDock insert for my 5G ipod video about 3 weeks ago. I emailed Bose customer service and got a prompt response requesting my serial number and some other info and had the insert in less than a week.

I’ve purchased a used Bose Sounddock that doesn’t have the inserts for the various ipods. I have an 8G nano can I get the insert to fit this ipod?
Thanks, George

i have the Sound Dock II and after purchasing the ipod nano 5th generation I called Bose technical support to purchase a new insert as the 5th generation nano’s connector is opposite of the 4th generation. I was very happy when the tech told me that they will ship me the insert for free, but when I got it the isert was marked for the nano 2G. I called again and this time the technician, his name Julius, was not helpful and even very arrogant and he was telling me that he never heard of such a thing, that I was mistaken that the connector is on the opposite side. Bottom line, he said in a very arrogant way that he was sure he was right and I was mistaken, but that he will send me an universal insert anyway. I love Bose, but they need to train their techs better or fire this particular one.
