Bose updates TriPort in-ear headphones

Responding to a “stability issue” with its TriPort in-ear headphones, Bose has announced that it will release an updated version starting next week. The “new” headphones, which are identical to the existing models, will include improved interchangeable ear tips in three sizes, which Bose says offer a better, more-snug fit. Later this year, Bose will offer a wire clip and a neck lanyard for the TriPort in-ear headphones. Those who’ve already purchased the $100 in-ear headphones can get all three upgrades at no charge. Starting March 16, owners can order the new accessories on the company’s website at bose.com/enhance.

I ordered a pair of these, and returned them about a week later. They were quite comfortable, and the bass response was admirable. I got rid of them for two reasons: First, they didn’t get loud enough. I know we’re all in danger of losing our hearing from blasting all that loud rock music, but I still think I should be the one to make that decision, thankyouverymuch. Second, and more important, there was no high end. The enhanced bass was not balanced and the overall sound was muddy and muffled.

Less important but more puzzling: The included leather case is terribly designed. People have been making earbud cases for decades—should it be so difficult for Bose to get it right? But putting their earphones into this case was like wrestling a garden snake into a matchbox.

Horrible earbud design. The problem with these headphones isn’t the sound or fit, both of which I got used to. I really don’t care about the case as I never use it. The earbuds simply fall of from holding in your hands, rubbing on your clothes, pulling out of your pockets/purses etc. OVER 50% OF THE TIME. I’ve lost all 6 in less than a month - with me being extra careful. Very disappointing design, not made for the real world. You have been warned.

I bought a pair of the tri-ports and returned them a couple of weeks later. I have to agree w/ Penner, there is no clarity at all to these ‘phones - it was like standing on a street corner and listening to someone blast their car stereo through a sub-woofer that takes up their entire trunk, all you get is muffed, muddied bass. In case anyone is wondering why it took a couple of weeks to return them, it’s because I had hoped that there would be a ‘burn-in’ period, turns out there isn’t; they sound as bad in two weeks as they do the day you buy them.

I A-B tested these with my Etymotics ER-4Ps at a Circuit City. Muddy is not the word for it, the difference between the 2 was amazing.

I really like the bose earbuds. they sound amazing compared to other earbuds. I too was disappointed with the fit. It just shows how cool Bose is when they listen to their customers and make changes. How many manufacturers can take a lesson here?
