An external Li-Ion battery pack solution for iPod has been developed by Battery Technology, Inc (BTI). “Designed for all iPod users, The iPod Battery comes with interchangeable cradles for the original and new iPod and will provide up to 40 hours of music play-time or down-load time, regardless of the age or status of the original (internal) battery. The iPod battery from Battery Technology, Inc. (BTI) does NOT charge the internal iPod battery. The power will by-pass the internal battery and go straight to the unit. This is the perfect solution for travel, long commutes or if its going to be a long time between charging access. The iPod Battery is also great when attaching your iPod to a speaker system…less wires needed (while battery is charged).” It’s compatible with all iPod models except the iPod mini and features; an On/Off switch, belt clip, USB port for charging other devices and comes with a one year warranty. BTI is accepting pre-orders for $99 and includes free shipping within US and Canada. A BTI representative told us “the battery is scheduled to be available some time in March.”
Editor’s note: BTI has sent us email to correct their earlier claim that the The iPod Battery would charge the internal iPod battery. The iPod battery from Battery Technology, Inc. (BTI) does NOT charge the internal iPod battery. The power will by-pass the internal battery and go straight to the unit.

Jaguares, how old are you? 10? 12? Mate you need to calm down and stop being abusive to others, next time you feel the need to make nonsense posts like you have done in this thread why dont you instead choose to shut up and save the embarrasment.

This solution looks like you slot the iPod into a jacket containing an extra battery which is kind of nice but then how are you going to carry it around? That case you bought is no longer effective.
Mind you that is just as much a problem with the Belkin solution.
But if this thing is $100 then why not just get a new battery from Apple? That thing may have 40 hours but if you can move it about easily then it’s pointless.

Actually I just noticed that there is a belt clip attachment on this so at least that problem has been considered.

I think this is a pretty good idea. The Belkin one isn’t great because it is so overpriced (at least this one actually has a battery in it!) and only gets 20 hours from 4 AA batteries, which just highlights the insane power consumption of the iPod. If this new one really does get 40 hours on it then that would be really useful to carry around if going on a long journey.
The reason it is better than the Apple battery replacement is that you get to have 2 batteries - the one inside your iPod and this extra one, rather than just having the one in the iPod replaced and still only getting the ‘8’ hours use.

Jaguares, your comments are both inappropriate, and unwarented. All on the lounge would appreciate it if you would possibly be a lot less profane and hurtful in your posts. This is a site dedicated to the advancement of free opinion, which is an american ideal. Your anti-american comments and additude, as well as racist stereotypes lead me to believe you are either from Alabama, or France.
Also, I believe that the word “Mate” is not british, but is of Austrailian origin. I would appreciate if you were to start using racial stereo types, that you at least get them correct. oh, and bad teeth are attributed to the southern-americans(not to be confused with south americans), not the british!
If it was up to me, you would no longer be allowed to post on this board, but, as i said, Dennis is much more tolerant of additudinal Disfunction than i am.

put down the almanac keane please your gonna hurt yourself. and the word mate is used by both countries. the stench of your political correctness is overwhelming. you must be republican.

And you must be 12.
I have no idea what causes the lack of sentance structure, knowledge, tact, or human decency with people like you. I am both proud of my political party, as well as my country, and believe that acting like a ##### and a jerk is only distructive. The gentleman above made a serious, thoughtful, and intelligent opinion-piece about his experiences, and you just bashed them.
It is people like you that have caused me to lose my faith in humanity. People who believe they are being creative and cool by putting down those with different opinions show their lack of knowledge and worldliness.
I am not politically correct because of my politial party, I am this way because i feel that it is not kind to make others feel inferior with the use of unfair slangs and stereotypes.
I am embarassed to have you as a fellow human, let alone countryman. I feel sorry for you and those around you for having to put up with you in more than just text. I believe i speak for the whole community when I request that you refrain from posting any further.

Jaguares,
You could stay silent and have people think you’re a fool, or continue to post insulting infantile drivel and remove all possible doubt.

Anyway…...
I just recieved an email from BTI, like ipodlounger did, and said that the battery pack will use Li-Ion. They said they will also send definate availability dates and specific specs on the product too.
Nevertheless… however expensive, practical or impractical the device looks or performs, its still good to know that there are so many companies now making accessories for the iPod. I know that sounds overly optimistic but its either expensive accessories or no accessories at all.
Albert is right though. The Belkin shouldn’t cost 60 dollars (69.99 at most stores). I would feel more inclined to spend at most 40-45 dollar for something that doesn’t even come with batteries. But 25 may be pushing it. But it doesn’t hurt to dream.
I’ll also have to take my word back about its looks too. I can’t decide for sure until i see more pictures. Overall…i like the docking without suction cups. :D
With a (Li-Ion) battery pack that LOOKS like its much larger than the iPod itself, i wouldn’t doubt so much that it can claim 40 hours of playback. It’s a little hard to swallow at $100….but at least its another alternative.
...Speaking of swallowing…why don’t you (Jaguares) swallow your pride or ignorance, or stupidity…whatever it is, and shut up or make one productive comment (just one) about the BTI product. I haven’t heard you say ONE THING yet about the topic on hand…and trust me…the topic isn’t just you, so don’t pride yourself in that.
Listen if you don’t like being called mate…then i’ll just call you A.SS. It’s pretty universal. It could mean “donkey” or ” the buttocks.” Either way one is stupid or the other is full of S#IT!

Will the BTI battery pack power the ipod if the ipod’s internal battery is not charged?

The BTI external battery will be available in the month of May. The design and bulkiness of the battery is an issue. There are rumors that BTI will be making a sleeker version of the battery pack. Not sure when that will be available, maybe by the end of the year. For more information, visit their webpage. It’s somewhat informative.
