Update: BusinessWeek will be sending a photographer to cover the event!
The weather this week has been great so far and will hopefully remain the same today. Please meet just outside the doors of the Esplanade Ballroom - Moscone Center South Hall at 4:00 pm.
We will be giving away three (3) sets of Etymotic ER-6 Isolator Earphones (estimated value $130) immediately following the iPod group photo. Three lucky winners will be randomly selected from the crowd using a yet to be determined method.
On Thursday, January 8 at 4:00 pm at Macworld, iLounge will be holding a group photo of iPod users. Join me, Dennis Lloyd (a.k.a. iLounger) for a group photo near Moscone Center South Hall near the Esplanade Ballroom. This will hopefully be a quick photo shoot of the largest group of iPoders in the world. Arrive early and be ready to ‘Raise your iPod.’ The photo will appear on iLounge.com hours after the photo is taken.

I will be at Macworld SF that day, but I hadn’t planned to bring my iPod around with me. Hmmm… +/-

I know, “wah!” I hear small violins.. But a day at Macworld expo is no joke. I always end up with my jacket rolled up inside the schwag bag, I don’t trust my iPod to a belt clip, and I don’t like having it inside a jeans pocket. My cell phone even bugs me by the end of a trade show, and it was free.
Suggestions? How would you guys carry your valuable iPod around on this type of day? Maybe I should dig my cargo pants out of the 80’s..er, I mean my bottom drawer.. LOL

Do you need to attend MacWorld to be in the picture?

It’d be very VERY cool if we could make groups of iPoders in many countries…. For isntance, here in Peru I’ve got no idea about who else has an iPod apart from me. Now if we could all gather and have a pic together it’d be cool to have it here posted

James- I took another look at the directions above, and just realized I’m not sure if the meeting place is inside or outside the paid area.
If the “South Hall doors” are the glass doors from the street, then the staircase is still outside near the public registration area. A bunch of local restaurants have advertisements there, IIRC. Good meeting place, easily moved outdoors if sunny.
If they mean the downstairs doors into the South Hall, where the keynote is actually given (that’s the confusing part), then I think it is inside and you’ll need a badge, but then I’m not sure which staircase they mean.

If it’s not raining, we will definitely head outside for the group photo… but the meeting place is inside near the Esplanade Ballroom. Now, any ideas on how I can randomly give away 3 sets of earphones to a crowd of people? I wanna keep it simple.

Throw them into the air and stand back?

I look forward to being there on Thursday, it should make a great photo. Your choice of prize is also very exciting.
For the giveaway you could use a part of the iPod’s serial number, such as the fourth and fifth digits:
Uxx99xxxxxx
You pick a number between 00 & 99 and see who has a match. If there’s no match pick again or give it to the closest match. If you think there will be too many matches you could use the fourth, fifth and sixth numbers.
Another option is to bring a roll of numbered tickets and have a standard raffle.

ipodlounger, so will we be able to be in the picture even if we aren’t registered for MWSF…? ...in other words, will the photo shoot be outside of the MWSF expo area where the public can join in?

why dont you make a barrel, and inside put these different things, and pull one by one out, until you get a winner
- iPod Generation [1/2/3]
- iPod size [5/10/15/20/30/40Gb]
- Number of songs [will have to depend on size, but maybe do it in percentages of total number of possible songs on iPod]
so, you do like this:
1. pull out an iPod generation [eg 3] - anyone with a third generation iPod stands up [everyone else sits down]
2. pull out an iPod size [eg 20Gb]
- anyone with a 3G 20Gb iPod stands up [eveyone else sits down]
3. pull out a number of songs [eg 40-50% of capacity (2000-2500 songs)] - anyone with that many songs on their iPod stands up [eveyone else sits down]
4. keep on narrowing down until you have a winner.
Maybe do this 3 times, or just get the three closest winner after one turn
i think thatd be fun.
