BuyMusic.com not selling 300,000 songs

So, BuyMusic.com started out by saying they had 300,000 songs available for download the first day of business. IF that were true than their claim would also be true that they were “The Largest Online Music Store”. Well, Mr. Blum in the past has also stated that they were the first legal online music downloading service, which we all know to be false. So judging on BuyMusic’s track record I set out to find out how many songs BuyMusic really had ready for download. By clicking on every single category and then by clicking on “List all” I could get an accurate number. I added all the numbers together and came out with a nice figure of 200,069. Yup, that’s right, nowhere near the figure of 300,000.

You see, the problem is that Buy.com is privately owned by Scott Blum, that means that he can release no official word on how many downloads he has, how many songs available, or how many people have visited his store, etc.

So just a fair warning, every time you hear a figure come out of his mouth, take it with a very large grain of salt.

Its true, Jesse had the guts to post this out on the open web and I applaud his courage to work with me and standup against this corporate travesty known as buymusic.com

As soon as iTunes Music Store is released for Windows… Buymusic.com will be a thing of the past.

Can one download from buymusic.com and transfer the music to an iPod?

Not easily, files on buymusic.com are in WMA format.

AND, they’re DRM protected, so you can’t decode them to wav or other formats without either recording them analog or burning then ripping a CD.

Buymusic.com is a ripoff, a travesty to all of the people who want an opportunity to buy music, and has so many technical glitches that I have heard many horror stories of their product not working at all, being overcharged, etc.

That’s why iPod is specifically NOT supported. On the buymusic site, they specifically sell Creative Nomad Zen players. Their commercials are blatent ripoffs of Apple’s. Generally a terrible service that I cannot wait to see the death of.

Little known Windows feature allows you to use the built-in sound recorder to record directly off the sound card. This allows you to record streaming audio or downloaded music into WAV format. Once in your own file, you can do whatever you want with it.

GMonkey - fastest computer is entirely subjective. clearly mistaking facts is not. 2+2 does not equal 7, but I’m sure that’s what buymusic’s calculator is showing.

I’m not sure about satirical (certainly likely), but I think buymusic’s commercials are stupid anyway. I don’t hold anyone in judgement, but just how does watching a bunch of obese, unattractive people gyrating and singing off tune make you want to go buy music? I don’t get it. Even if it did work with my Ipod, I wouldn’t buy from buymusic.
