Working together on behalf of the iPod and iPhone community, iLounge and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) today announced the historic official launch of the iLounge Pavilion, the first unified pavilion area for iPod and iPhone products to be offered at an International Consumer Electronics Show. Debuting at the 2010 CES, this pavilion will for the first time give iPod and iPhone vendors their own dedicated, prominent stage at the world’s largest trade show for consumer technology.

“We are excited to announce that iLounge and CEA are partnering on this dynamic new CES pavilion,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “The accessories market, driven by the popularity of iPods, iPhones, and other MP3 and smartphone technologies, will grow this year to a nearly $15 billion market. This new pavilion is one more innovative way the 2010 CES will be the epicenter of consumer technology.”

“iLounge is proud to be working with CEA and the world’s leading iPod and iPhone developers to fulfill a common goal,” said Jeremy Horwitz, editor-in-chief, iLounge, “to give these exciting companies and products a prominent stage at the center of the industry’s most important technology trade show. We are especially glad that readers, exhibitors, and retailers will finally be able to find all of the best new iPod and iPhone products of 2010 in one excellent place.”

“The space has been established and the wait/priority list for the pavilion is now open,” said Karen Chupka, senior vice president, events and conferences, CEA. “We believe that CES attendees will make this pavilion a ‘must-see,’ and based on early inquiries we think this area, already set for thousands of square feet, will very rapidly sell out.”

Companies interested in exhibiting at the 2010 iLounge Pavilion at CES should contact Tira Gordon, National Account Manager for CES, at tgordon@ce.org. The full press release from CEA can be read by clicking on the title of this article; a FAQ discussing the announcement is also available.

Wow!  Great job iLounge team! So I would guess you’ll have a fleet of orange sofas parked around the pavillion, eh?

Congratulations, iLounge! It is obvious there aren’t many as dedicated as you in the world of iPod and iPhone and this news only confirms your total loyalty to this magnificent world has paid off in a big way.

While I think this is a great idea and partnership, I hope iLounge will publicly address any appearance of a conflict of interest before it becomes an issue. I think Macworld Magazine did a good job of that with Macworld Expo, even though the two were more or less independent of each other. I would expect such attention from iLounge as well.

Good job, guys!

Thanks to all of you. iLounge’s editorial policies have for years been very explicit regarding our editorial independence from all of the companies we cover. Nothing has changed as a result of this pavilion, which we helped to facilitate on behalf of the entire iPod and iPhone industry, not any individual company or small collection of companies. We are not involved in running the show, and as mentioned, derive no financial benefit from it; as in years past, we will incur our own costs in traveling to and from the event, and additionally, assembling the lounge area we have planned for the pavilion. For these reasons and many, many others, our coverage of iPod, iPhone, and related news at CES will be every bit as independent as it has been in the past.

So, it sounds like the ‘exclusive to the International CES” statement at the end of the “About iLounge” blurb, implies iLounge will pass on Macworld next year. Or, at least, won’t be giving out the same awards as it has in the past. That would be a shame for many of the companies that choose to remain in San Francisco. I’ve been to both shows and it’s real easy to get lost in the crowds at CES. A separate pavilion is nice if you can get products in there from companies not actually at the show.
