Crutchfield has announced the launch of the Digital Drive-thru, an online tool that helps users find the accessories and instructions required to connect an iPod to any car stereo system. “Customers simply identify their specific model of digital music player, the year, make and model of their vehicle, add in any other customized equipment currently in use, and the tool immediately identifies the exact equipment necessary to complete the best installation—optimized for sound quality, aesthetics and overall functionality—along with a graphical depiction of the installation process.”

I guess some of the higher-end stereos might do a better job of controlling the iPod while driving, though during the two days that I owned a Griffin SmartDeck, I quickly discovered that it was easier to control my iPod… via the iPod. :-(

Handy page… A bit quicker to navigate than what they had there before.
I’m also surpised to see that there’s another company producing adapters with Dension IceLink-like adapters.
According to the specs, the USA SPEC iPod Interface can do everything the IceLink can, but for quite a bit less.

Um, I don’t think so…
I tried putting in my car’s specs using the factory installed unit option and they offered the full ipod integration, fm modulator, fm transmitters & cassette adapters.
They did not offer a really simple option: a new cd player with an aux in.
Which you can find for $99 (Sony CDX-GT-100) on crutchfield’s site. I got mine at circuit city with free installation (harness and dress kit cost extra, though).
The Sony deck works with any iPod and I picked up a PowerJolt Charger for $25.00.
