Digital Distribution for Indie Musicians

CD Baby, online retailer selling CDs by independent musicians has announced a digital distribution system to help musicians get their music sold on “popular legitimate download services” like iTunes,, etc. There is a comprehensive outline describing the distribution system on their website.

“The Deal
You keep all the rights to your music.
You just lend us the right to be your digital distributor: to get your music to legitimate music services like Apple iTunes,, and more.”

9% might be a bit much for your tech savvy musicians, but it’s a no-brainer for most musicians. Many techies might even submit to the 9% just so they wouldn’t have to reencode and reupload their album 20 times.
