Wondered why no one did this before… Seems like the iPod was designed for stuff exactly like this. 

Now the catch is… will it sound good and will it be loud enough to use practically?

Exactly what I was looking for, except one thing - the iPod is totally unprotected.  While in the boombox, you can’t use a protective case, so it’s open to the elements (and dirt and sand…). 

Add a flip-down “weather-resistant” cover and this thing is perfect…

I would love to see a similar idea applied to car stereos.  Where you can just open up the faceplate and dock the iPod (kinda like the cassettes or the 8-tracks, for those of you who can remember that far back).

Great idea, to bad they didnt implement some sort of IR remote for it.

also, enough with the “i” this and “i” that for all the iPod accessories.

Love the idea of an iPod boom box though.

The flip-down cover that someone mentioned would be cool too..

Those Altec something or other ones do look prettier. But these speakers will be louder, right?

i wouldnt let it near my ipod

get an itrip on your pod, put that in your pocket and get a half decent stereo.

i dont think some manufacturers understand that ipod owners like well designed stuff

ugh. its ugly.
the grey plastic around the screen and the for the buttons looks terrible. and whats with the slanted everything but the iPod. it looks like someone just stuck an iPod on there with tape.
whoever said pricing hasnt been announced, read the article again. September 2004 $149.95.

Will it be multi voltage (110/220) for use outside the US ?

Does it have an alarm clock function so I can wake to music from my ipod?

Tell us more about the power output, is it a real 20 watts per channel?

Does it have an IR remote?

Their marketing guy should go back to college.

Geez- some of you here are so harsh, need to grow up and get a life!  It is really easy to sit anonymously behind your computers and slam companies that obviously put a lot of hard work into making products that extend the usefullness of the iPod. 

This product looks pretty cool to me.  I have used most of the small speaker solutions made for the iPod (altec lansing, sony, creative . . .) and all of them tap out at the upper end very quickly.  The Altec Lansing speakers sound pretty good, but are really only good for personal use.  The speakers on this product actually look large enough to really work in a place like the beach or in a room with several people talking on top of the music.

As far as the design is concerned, this product looks pretty cool as well.  Nice curves, contrasting speaker grilles, and the buttons are positioned in a logical, usable place.  This product looks unique and obviously a lot of thought was put into the design.

The inMotion speaker systems are very boxy and look fairly simple.  I like the inMotion design, but this looks much cooler.  But as the Dude would say, “Hey, like that is your opinion, Man.”
