Do-it-yourself iPod mount for boat

Glen Ersly wanted to mount his iPod in his boat and came up with an easy solution to his problem. “I installed an Apple iPod at the helm, where it’s protected from spray and weather by the overhang (see illustration). To mount it, I built a small shelf for the unit on the console and secured Velcro above it and onto the back of the iPod (step one). This arrangement holds the iPod firmly in place (step two). Now I can take every CD and record I own (about 400 albums) on the boat with me. I just returned from fishing in the Bahamas and never heard the same song twice!”

If salt water is bad for CDs, I can only imagine what it could do to the iPod. Even if it’s covered.
