Yea that does suck and all but come on if i just paid 250 dollars for a mini i wouldnt sit on it. Why wouldnt you just put it in your front pocket.

doh!

this actually leads to a question:

When I take my 3g out of the #### case, I get a kind of ‘Striping” that lasts a minute or so on the outside part of the screen.  I assume this is from the slight pressure I’m applying to take the case off.  It goes away very quickly and I can even “wiggle” it away.  Is this doing any peremanent damage?  Is there a better wayt to tkae the case off?

Buy a new one, take it apart, format and sell the mini HD on eBay, and swap the LCD.  Sell the rest on eBay, too.  Might even make a buck.

...or just buy a new one and sell the broken one on ebay

What about taking the hard disk out and selling it? It is supposed to cost more than the iPod mini according to some other postings.

My user name applies to this situation quite well.  I mean seriously, the kid SAT ON his iPod?  Then was surprised when it broke?  How stupid can one get?

extruded aluminum is not all that flexible…at all….but putting all of your weight on it will make the screen break.  Aluminum is probably the best material for the mini but anything with an exposed LCD will crack if ya sit on it.  very unfortunate.  FRONT POCKET KIDDO ALWAYS

i bought the ipod (3g) with my allowance and it took a year to save up…i never lose track of where it is, and would never put it in a bag, backpack, or back pocket…i think this kid’s spoiled.

Funny, as I had a recurring dream of something that happened to me ten years ago… 

I had bought a $434CDN calculator, a HP48GX in 1994.  This thing had serial connectivity to a PC, it could function as a print server, it had games (Doom was released on the thing!), all sorts of sounds, functions, textpad, infrared port, an accessible programming language (I heard of people transmitting answers to others, making the calculators illegal for use during some exams, others made TV remotes of the thing) and 128K OF RAM!!!  You could even buy up to 4MB of memory for the sucker, though if I remember, a card of 1MB RAM cost something like $100…  And, like the iPod, you could get your name engraved on the thing.

I still don’t think they’ve made a better calculator today.

Anyway, one day, I had all my textbooks in my backpack, and regretably, I also had my HP calculator in there…  Easily, my bag would weigh 75-100lbs, and one day, my strap broke, and my bag fell a few feet, cracking the whole front of my calculator.

I begged and pleaded with the bookstore, and they managed to get HP to replace the thing for me.  (Honestly, I don’t see why Apple stores can’t do the same for the kid)

Long and short of this:

If you have a fairly large LCD, TRY TO PROTECT IT WITH A HARD COVER, and AVOID PRESSURE ON THE SCREEN.

this reminds me of my experience…

see i had this egg once, and it was all white and oval shaped. anyway, i decided one day to sit on it…boy did i learn my lesson…

that chicken should replace the egg though…even though i had a general knowledge that sitting on fragile objects usually breaks them…

In a related news story, it was recently discoverd that it is unwise to hit yourself in the head with a hammer, drive your car full speed into a lightpole, and stick a fully loaded automatic machine gun up your ###. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that it is currently not possible to get a refund for your ###.

if his mom is reading this, sell it on ebay, people are willing to pay for it for the hard drive inside of it. Trust me, do a search on ebay. That’ll easily get lots of money back, mabey around $200.

My 20gb 3g ipod had lines missing from the apple logo when it started up one day. and id notice if i had browse highlighted it would flash. i called apple support and they told me to reset the thing by running ipod updater and selecting restore. after that it fixed the issue

I wonder if it still plays music. I hardly look at my screen anyhow. Usually I just hit play and go.

but it would suck not being able to access all the features like on-the-go playlist, alarm clock, games, equalizer settings, etc.
