I received an email today that the naviPod wireless remote is shipping, though the website remains “Preorder, shipping July.”

The one thing I don’t like about all these cool accessories for the 3G is that they don’t use the dock interface.  If they did they would need to support a pass-through so that I could have a remote hooked up to iTrip that also charges the iPod.  Using the jack just makes for trouble.

Mine arrived by UPS just now.  I won’t be able to try it until I get home from work.  I don’t think they had much choice but to use the remote port on top rather than the dock port, because I think that’s the only way Apple designed the iPod to be controlled in terms of replicating the front buttons.  I’ll be using mine with a dock as well, charging via the dock, while remote controlling with this navipod thing.  The metal bar that can be used to stand the iPod up with the remote attached is removable, so you can leave it off, so it won’t get in the way of the regular Apple dock.
