iLounge is proud to present the world’s first independent pictures of the new 60GB iPod Photo, the premium color-screened iPod announced yesterday and released today by Apple Computer, with its packaging. Use the Photos link below to see our photo gallery.
The gallery includes pictures of the iPod Photo’s remarkable new screen, which is far crisper and brighter than we had imagined it would be, and a variety of the new color applications included with the hardware. Our first screenshot of the iPod Photo’s new Photo menu shows the menu choices available to the user, and you can also see the unit’s new cables, Photo Dock, and all of its packaging. Notably, the iPod Photo is the first to include Apple logo stickers, which used to be packed-in only with Macintosh computers.

So when will these be available? Steve Jobs said they are shipping “today” but on the apple online store they say 1 -2 weeks to ship. . .

Wow! another new IPOD. Should we call this one 4.5G? I’m taking my 30Gig 3G to Iraq for a year. The one good thing about the trip. I won’t be tempted to buy another one for the next 12 months. By then, Apple will have the 6 or 7G model out with built in video & AAC playback, wi-fi, bluetooth, AM-FM radio, 100Gig HD and cost $100. Well we can only hope!

Just a word of caution… the iPod photo only displays specially compressed digital photos.
I placed an order for an iPod Photo online last night, but then cancelled the order this morning. I found out that photos loaded into it from the Belkin media reader are NOT viewable. First you have to sync with the PC so that iTunes can process and compress the images. Only THEN can you actually view the photos on the screen.
Since I wanted the iPod Photo specifically for offloading memory cards and viewing the photos while I’m still on vacation, that won’t cut it. Besides, Buy.com is selling 512 MB Compact Flash cards for $20, so I really don’t need an iPod for storing photos anymore.

the question is, does the 4G have this color screen hidden capability like so many thought, because it looks exactly the same, and they came out so close together. doubtful, but hey i wish someone could figure it out.

I’m sure it doesn’t , gaijin. Why would Apple spend the money to put in a color screen then disable it and hide the fact that it exists? No, that’s a monochrome LCD in the 4G.

I hear everyone complain about how they’d want WiFI, Video, or Bluetooth. If they had this, what would this give you? Would you actually want to download directly to your iPod? And don’t think for a second you’d be able to beam to another iPod. Someone fill me in here—what don’t I get?

God. These things are stupid. I thought they would be useful if you could use the Belkin thing, but if you can’t what’s the point? The screen is nice, but for pictures, it’s just stupid.
Maybe you could carry your porn collection around or something…

60GB, 12-15 hour battery! I’d still get it even if it didn’t have photo capability. Just a bonus feature to me. I’ll probably use the color screen for just album art. Kinda nice since I’ve stored all my Jewel cases. But now I’ve got to scan all my CD covers…
Great product!!
