Elgato Systems has released EyeTV 2.4, a free update to its EyeTV software which brings one-click video export for the Apple TV. “The feature functions in the same way as EyeTV 2’s easy iPod export button,” says Elgato. “Simply select a video from the list of recordings and click the new Apple TV button in the menu bar. Alternatively, the export can be automated as part of the recording schedule.” EyeTV 2.4 also offers bug fixes and other improvements, including support of third-party infrared hardware, Program Guide enhancements, and support for Apple’s Spotlight search technology.

I think this is a great update, and even though i don’t have an Apple TV I’ll download and install it. The problem with their automatic export feature however, both for the iPod and now the Apple TV, is that there’s no way to automatically cut commercials. I don’t want to automatically convert the latest episode of 24, Lost or Smallville to my iPod before the commercials are cut out. What they really need to work on is automatic ad editing, then we’ll actually be able to use the fancy automatic export feature.

Cool Cat, I second that motion! Also support for CableCard would be nice too!

That was fast! There are a few shows that I watch only on my Apple TV instead of my iPod. I’m looking forward to testing this.
Automatic ad editing, if not a pipe dream, is a long way off. Except for “Lost”, which is ruined if you don’t see every second in its correct sequence, I usually trim the front and back as these are easy and I put up with fast-forwarding through the ads. The goal is to keep it low-maintenance.

Anyone else having problems getting the update from the Elgato’s site? I’ve been trying for a while with no luck.

Regarding auto export to AppleTV/iPod: Well, you could not auto export, and then do it after you cut out commercials. What’s so hard about that?
As far as auto commercial clipping, while I’ve seen some fuzzy logic regarding this feature, it’s far from accurate. You’d still would need to review the video before export.
