Former Genentech CEO and current Apple board member Dr. Arthur Levinson has resigned as a member of Google’s Board of Directors, effective immediately.
In a statement, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said, “Art has been a key part of Google’s success these past five years, offering unvarnished advice and vital counsel on every big issue and opportunity Google has faced. Though he leaves as a member of our Board, Art will always have a special place at Google.” Levinson’s position on the Board of Directors at both Apple and Google was a point of concern in the Federal Trade Commission’s investigation into the close ties between Apple’s and Google’s board; Levinson’s departure follows that of Schimdt from Apple’s board, severing one more tie between the two companies.
