Video game specialty retailer game stop may soon begin offering the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad in its stores, according to a new report. Citing several unnamed sources, 9to5Mac reports that the announcement was made to dealers at a recent trade show in Las Vegas. GameStop also recently began accepting iOS device trade-ins for store credits, and may be planning to offer used products before phasing in new offerings. Such a move by GameStop would likely bolster iOS’ growing reputation as a viable gaming platform.

God I hope not. It is bad enough that they open NEW games and take out free extras provided by a publisher or studio. Effectively eliminating the ability of the consumer to buy a new, unopened product from them. Now we get to buy pre-opened ios devices which you can almost be certain are going to be slightly used by their employees… I stopped giving Gamestop my business years ago.

While GameStop may have a bad rep, I feel that this development is only positive for the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. In my experience most small to medium sized towns and cities have one or more GameStop stores. This means more folks being exposed to our favorite devices and iOS. To me, this is very good news - if true.
