UK-based iPod accessory maker GEAR4 has announced the CruiseControl, an RF remote control for iPods. The CruiseControl’s receiver works with any iPod with a dock connector port, has a headphone amp and port on the bottom, and provides a range of up to 160 feet. The remote control comes with a lanyard and has seven functions, including shuffle and repeat buttons, normal pause/play, volume and fwd/back buttons. The CruiseControl sells for £24.99 (about $47).

I wonder if this can be used while the iPod is in a case? Something like this would be great for the beach, but if it only works without a case, then I’m not so sure about it…

I like the way this thing looks. might have to buy one if it becomes available in the USA. This device might work with a soft neoprene case like the iSkin, which can actually be compressed. Hopefully iLounge will be able to get their hands on one and review it.

This would be interesting if, instead of a headphone port on the bottom, it duplicated the docking port (and also had an outline which matched an iPod). That way it could plug into a device with a dock for power and audio and still be remote controlled.
