GelaSkins vinyl iPod protectors announced

GelaSkins has announced its new line of protective vinyl iPod skins. Featuring over 100 designs ranging from fine art prints to graffiti style street art, the $15 adhesive protectors are available for 4G and 5G iPods, the iPod mini, and iPod nano. “GelaSkins are easy to apply thanks to a special textured adhesive technology, which channels air out and prevents the formation of bubbles,” explains the company. “Even after extended use, GelaSkins remove cleanly leaving no residue on the iPod. Their low-profile design adds almost zero bulk, so the iPod will still integrate perfectly with other accessories such as its dock or the iTrip.”

I’d be more interested if they offered a plain black or clear one, like invisibleSkin, and with a scroll wheel cutout. Seems like it’s an outstanding alternative to the sticker option.

My mistake…they do offer a wheel cut-out that you don’t have to use.

Now about that all black option…I would totally sacrifice the mirrored back for the plain black vinyl if it meant good protection.

I would definately buy one if it was available in clear, plain black, or plain white.

This is not innovative. DecalGirl sells these vynyl skins. And they sell them for cheaper.

wow, so inovative that decal girl have been doing exactly the same thing, including an amazing clear skin for ages. plus they are only $8.

Does decalgirl offer one with a click wheel cutout? That’s my only concern before I buy a decalgirl.

Posted by Jeff Martin on April 18, 2006 at 7:56 PM (CDT)

Considering all the other vinyl sticker options out there, these are pretty expensive.

Yes, DecalGirl has covers for the clickwheel and center button, but you do not have to use them.  There are very good quality stickers.  I’ve been using them here and there since the Mini.  Just be patient when putting it on to avoid any mistakes.

Sean, maybe you could give me a link to one of the Decalgirl covers with a clickwheel cutout? All the covers I can find have “full” protection.

First the product site is easy to use, the product itself is interesting creative, a lower cost model would increase sales volumes, but the over all idea is great. I am waiting to see what the product looks like. I should have mine in a couple days and than I will post pictures. Good idea -

Do they print on transparent vinyl or white vinyl? Are the stickers cut to spare the display or is the display covered by transparent vinyl?

GelaSkins does not provide answer to this question.

The reason i don´t offer Shufflesome designs for the iPod Nano or iPod Video is because i haven´t found a technology that would allow for high quality printing on transparent vinyl.

What´s the use of a cover that spares the display? It´s a bad compromise in my view.

Open your eyes! Many companies don´t provide info on this important detail, nor do they show actual close-up photos. Why not?

If anybody finds information about process color printing on transparent vinyl, let me know.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your interest in GelaSkins. Just to clear things up, all of our skins come with a screen guard. It is separate from the actual skin, but cut to fit perfectly within the display window. We are really excited about our GelaScreens because they are made of a material has better optical clarity than vinyl and the adhesive is absolutely bubble free.

Happy Skinning!
