Gigaware has introduced its new In-Line Control with HD Radio for iPhone and iPod touch. The Dock-connecting controller features a remote control setup similar to that of Apple’s prior iPod Radio Remote, as well as an HD Radio tuner, iTunes Tagging support, the ability to show song information on the iPhone’s or iPod touch’s display. The In-Line Control requires iBiquity Digital’s free HD Radio app for the iPhone and iPod touch, and is available now exclusively from RadioShack for $80.

Price aside, it’s a really nice design.

Will it pick up HD AM signals or just HD FM?

I purchased this product 2 days ago. In spite of all of the Great Features of HD Radio, this accessory does not measure up!! When the remote is connected to my iPod touch, it does indeed pick up HD broadcasts, but the sound quality is horrific…it’s like listening to a poorly encoded MP3 file! Other issues are nominal amounts of background noise and lack of higer volume control!

It would be nice if Apple would just allow us to use our Apple Radio Remote with the iPhone/iTouch. If they can’t add the radio feature it would be great to be able to at least use the remote for play, pause, skip, and volumne when you have the iPhone/iTouch in your pocket or backpack.

Jim, Griffin makes a remote for the iPhone/iPod Touch that also includes a FM tuner for less than $40, its called the Navigator. Nice design & very easy to use. Plus you can download a free app to use with it but it is not needed.
