Griffin Technology today announced the PowerJolt auto charger for Apple’s iPod shuffle, fourth-generation iPods, and iPod mini.
The PowerJolt plugs into your car’s cigarette lighter outlet and features a USB port to accept an iPod shuffle directly. The $24.99 charger also comes with a 48-inch Dock Connector USB cable that lets you use the PowerJolt with iPods and iPod minis.
“The PowerJolt auto adapter allows you to take your iPod on the road and listen to great music while keeping your iPod fully charged,” says Griffin. “The PowerJolt charges your iPod whether it’s playing music or in standby mode, ensuring that you’ll arrive at your destination with a fully charged iPod.”

I have a Griffin PowerPod which looks exactly like this except it says PowerPod on the side instead of PowerJolt… what’s the difference? :S

I had the exact same thought, confused. I bought the “PowerPod car charger” or whatever, which functions in exactly the same way as described and looks exactly the same. Same price, too….

There are similiar products for less than $10.
BTW, it seems there are at least two differences between powerpod and powerjolt:
1./ the name :D
2./ the warranty (1 year for the new powerjolt but 2 years for the powerpod).
And I am not sure if powerjolt is compatible with the 3G iPods.

does not compatible with 3G iPod and below.
This one was designed more towards iPod shuffle i.e. USB connector on one end and the use of USB-dock connector for 4G iPod + mini.

i think this uses USB for charging, where the powerpod uses firewire.

Apple is hardly trying to protect its iPod trademark, which is why they ask everybody who is a serious/blessed/authorized member of the iPod industry to get rid of names containing “pod”.
PowerJolt instead of PowerPod is just one example. iLounge instead of iPodlounge is another (seriously!).
