So… for $20 you can buy a new dock cable from apple, or for $24 you can get a new dock cable + a new car charger? good deal.

Saw this at a shop 2 days ago and thought exactly the same as lance (about buying a new cable and getting a free charger). i wonder whether it will only handle power though (i.e. the data cables removed) like the sik hotwire cable.

Well, the post says it can be used for normal synching and docking.

“Recently redesigned, the Griffin PowerPod is still the only iPod charger fully compatible with both original and new Apple iPods.”
Hmm. The SiK imp is compatable with both iPods, I’m pretty sure. All you need to do is not include the firewire/line out Splitter that has the Dock connecter on it. The actual charger has a regular firewire cable on it, so you could use it for the original iPods i’d imagine.
Of course, the Griffin PowerPod has the advantage of basically giving you an extra dock cable, which I find pretty nifty in and of itself. But the Sik imp gives you a line out, which I don’t think the Griffin model does. Line out is nice.
*shrugs* Good deal though.

Yes the Sik imp does work on all Ipod models. It also give a line-out without dock to 3rd gen models plus the ability to use a regular firewire cable to power and synch. They sell $30.

I would have been nice to have this for those of us who bought the Belkin charger thinking it DID come with the 3G cable only to find out it didn’t!

I recently got one from a friend that works at Griffin. I highly recommend it. It’s great! I love the fact that it comes with a 30” dock cable and supports both versions of ipods.

the imp has a cigarette plug with a firewire cord. it also has another segment that has a dock connector, lineout and a female firewire plug. i talked with someone from SIK (who sells it) and they said that all you need is a simple firewire cord to make it back into a synching cable (with lineout). admittedly, i am lookin closesly at both, anone got either yet?

I have the imp and it does what it says. I have used the line-out, powered and syched with a regular firewire cable, used the car charger, and even used the car charger on a 2nd gen ipod as well. It’s everything I needed.

i wonder whether they would sell me an imp and an exra top section (not the lighter) so i could have a car one and one to charge/connect to my stereo (like a dock - but i use an iskin exo2 which cannot dock)

so, for those of us who bought a powerpod before this announcement (ie at the end of last year), shall we expect to recieve a free dock to firwire cable, or do we ungracefully slip into the “i’ve been ripped off bin”.
in regards to the itrip, man, mine was working perfectly untill last weekend, and now, for some strange reason, every bump i now go over on the road causes about five to ten seconds of badd-### static. anyone else experienced this??
