Griffin Technology has released iTalk Recorder, a free iPhone and iPod touch 2G software version of its earlier iTalk hardware voice recorders for iPods and iPod nanos. Designed with three recording quality settings—good, better, and best—iTalk Recorder creates AIFF-format recordings that can be sent wirelessly to your computer using a separate free application, iTalk Sync. Both applications are available now, though Griffin’s web site currently only offers iTalk Sync in a Macintosh version; a Windows version is “coming soon.”

You state that Griffin’s iTalk is “free.” It is…for now. They state on the iTunes App Store that it is “free for a limited time.”
Although I already have and enjoy Speakeasy, which was well reviewed here on iLounge, I was alerted to iTalk in reading a favorable review of Speakeasy on another site, and, it being temporarily free, I downloaded it two days ago.
I like it, and it’s interface is attractive and clean, if not quite as attractive as Speakeasy’s. More crucially, I prefer iTalk’s method of transferring recordings to my Mac than Speakeasy’s, which requires backing up and syncing the iPhone in iTunes. That’s fine and easy enough, but backing up one’s iPhone can take a few minutes (or even longer). iTalk’s wireless transfer method is literally drag and drop to the desktop.
I won’t say it’s superior to Speakeasy, but iTalk is certainly a challenger to consider. Grab it while it’s free, folks!
