Griffin ships iTalk Pro recorder

Griffin Technology today announced that it is now shipping its iTalk Pro audio recorder (iLounge Rating: B). Compatible with the fifth-generation iPod and second-generation iPod nano, the iTalk Pro has built-in twin microphones that can record in mono or CD-quality (44.1 kHz) stereo. The $50 accessory also features adjustable gain settings and a stereo 3.5 mm input jack for use with external microphones.

I got it on Nov 24th from Amazon.com for $ 30.99

It works really well and is way cheaper than the other choices.

I’ve been waiting for this for about 6 months! I gave up last week and got the Belkin. It works very well but it works better with my Nano than with my Video due to the noise from the hard drive and it’s drain on the battery. Now I’m glad I got the Tunetalk, if only so I can power my iPod while it’s in use.

I got the Xtrememac micromemo last week after a long wait. I agree with the iLounge review - excellent product. Like TS, I’ve found it works better with the 2nd gen nano due to absence of HD noise and superior battery life.

Can anyone tell me if the adjustable gain setting also works with the mic input or does it only effect the built-in mics? I bought a MicroMemo a month or so ago for the purpose of recording home Bible studies. I wanted to use my own lapel mic. I tried an AudioTechnica and the signal was way too hot, very overdriven. I also tried Griffen’s LapelMic and it also was way too hot. The MM has a built-in auto gain control but its sensitive enough.

Anyone know if the iTalk Pro gives enough gain control over the mic input if any at all? Thanks.

The iTalk Pro gives you 3 choices when it comes with Gain Control.

Low Gain,
High Gain or
Automatic Gain (which I use)

and it works just fine.

So, will you be able to save the recordings onto your iPod PL?
I ask this b/c I have a digital recorder and it doesn’t allow me to transfer the files onto my iPod.

There’s a new MicroMemo made for the iPod nano. If it will also work with the bigger iPod, I think I’ll purchase it instead.
