It might suggest that the firmware contains routines intended for the earlier hardware. The fact that those diagnostics are in there could mean that they intend to build the firmware for our current iPods as well. It could also mean that they were just lazy and didn’t take out the old diagnostics. You all know what I’m hoping for, though.

I wonder if they have enough space on the EPROM for 2.0 firmware? If memory serves, the size is 2MB and there’s been afew updates. It’s got to be close to full.

I’d forsake the games, which I never use, for the additional funcitonality.

A Suggestion-Let Apple know that you want the new features for the “classic” iPods by writing a review of the iPods both old and new on Amazon.com and similar websites. If you feel like I do, one could argue poor customer service in the review. Maybe this will get Apple’s attention.

or you could just write Apple directly. doing what you suggest may dissuade someone from buying an iPod all-together which isn’t in their best interest, or Apple’s.

I agree, for now. I don’t want to “screw Apple” (funny, your username is auto-censored in here), I want to get their attention. If they correct this, that would show good customer support. If enough time passes and they don’t, they’ll have proven bad customer support.
What I did was to send them my opinions as feedback and share that feedback as an open letter. If they improve things, I’ll give it the same attention. If they don’t, we shall see.
