why is this news? people have been using remotes with their PCs for QUITE awhile now.. and other than controlling itunes with the remote (which you can already do with girder) i dont see the ipod connection here…

If you actually read the datasheets, this is a home theatre pc.  If the pricing is good, this could be a hot item.

Because this thing is $1500 dollars. Still, it’s pretty impressive. It has a dual-layer 14x DVD burner, and look at the ports on the back. HP has done a hell of a lot more than simply provide a remote control for iTunes!

It’s funny that HP doesn’t include a picture of a monitor with this. They make it look like a stereo receiver, but it is a MS Media Center PC. Oh well—there’s the rub. Hardware manufacturers are limited by MS’s crappy products. The OS used really deflates some of the excitement. Why not use Linux?

i was looking at The HP Media Center Extender x5400, the lower version. I don’t know how much it runs, but it appears to be able to do what I bought the airport express for, stream music to another room via 802.11g.  Plus, it has on screen prompts.  I just saw a similar linksys product, but heard it was crapola.  i bet with HP + iPod shizzle going on, this will integrate well iTunes in the future. but i’m half drunk right now, bullocks to the NY Yankees for beating my red sox!
