HP launches iTunes website
HP has launched its own HP Music website to promote iTunes and the iTunes Music Store. “HP and Apple have partnered to bring the award-winning iTunes music jukebox software onto your PC and into your digital world,” reads a section of the new site. “Now you can enjoy the revolutionary digital music experience that’s changing the way the world listens, all in the comfort of a Windows-based environment.” Clicking the “Download iTunes” link takes you to a new Apple.com web page to downoad iTunes for HP and Compaq customers. “Available for Windows XP, and Windows 2000, iTunes 4.2 allows you to sign in and buy music from the iTunes Music Store with your AOL or Apple Account.”

I think Gates will look for a grave to roll over in. This is the most heavily promoted Apple product found on a site of a business primarily driven by M$. HP packages this promotion with pride and credibility, even with links to the Apple Website. Good job, Jobs!

though i like my iPod, i’d take HP’s gray over any of Apple’s fruity colors anyday.

HP’s version of iTunes is v4.2.0.74. The current Apple iTunes is v4.2.0.72. What differences are there between the two (i.e. bugs fixed)???

if you read in the source code it says that they will launch towards the end of March on pavillion and presarios.

I still like my WinXP box but I hate their wma format and media player.

I think the HP deal with Apple is a good synergy all round - however HP need to pull their socks up. They manufacture a wireless media receiver to stream the music on your hard drive to your hi-fi via a wireless network. It supports MP3 and WMA, but not AAC. Stupid.

I emailed HP tech support and asked them if they were going to support AAC with their other programs such as Memory Disk Creator. They said AAC songs would have to be converted to a format that Memory Disk Creator would work with (mp3, wav, aiff).
Once again stupid.
