Iconic.am has launched its new sports case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Designed to take advantage of the handsets’ built-in HD video recording capabilities, the Iconic.am system includes a watertight case, a wrist-strap mount, and a free app that uses the device’s accelerometer to allow for control without needing to physically touch the phone. The case is made from clear polycarbonate, and features a shock-absorbing structure on the inside for increased impact protection, a touch-through cover for the screen, as well as three locking latches and a silicone O-ring for IPX5 water resistance. The Iconic.am case for the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S is available now and sells for $70.

I got two of these cases at alpine meadows professional winter sport demo days and intended to use them for a ice climbing trip and a couple ski trips to Chamonix and Colorado. I live in Tahoe and ski every day so I am familiar with taking lots of footage. additionally I long board and mountain bike quite a bit. though I was enthusiastic about this product initially I will be unable to recommend them to anyone. The first one broke in the hotel room while we were futzing with the straps. my girlfriend broke the other one on the hike into the climb. they are VERY poorly made and poorly designed. the materials are cheap and flimsy. no way this would stand up to repeated use and I personally doubt any claims of water proof or impact resistance. I cannot stress enough how much I think you should save your money. whats a new iphone cost? put the money you’re thinking about spending on this towards a gopro.
