iLounge announces free 2004 Buyers’ Guide

picNeed to drop a strong hint that you want an iPod or accessories for the holidays? Want to do it for free? iLounge has the answer. On November 1, 2004, we will release the iLounge Buyers’ Guide 2004, a completely free way for our over 1.2 million readers to tell their friends and family which gifts they want to receive.

That’s right. We said completely free. This is our way of showing our continued commitment to keeping the world’s best iPod information free for the world’s best readers.

The iLounge Buyers’ Guide will be a PDF-format magazine including reviews of the world’s top iPod accessories and previews of upcoming products, an easy-to-read iLounge Report Card on the hundreds of products we’ve reviewed, and much, much more. Print pages for your family’s shopping lists.

More details will be announced in the days leading up to November 1. For media and advertising information, please contact Dennis Lloyd.

Are you accepting any money from the companies represented in the buyer’s guide? Will there be advertisements? If you’re truly doing this at no profit, kudos, but if not don’t boast about offering it completely free as if you’re philanthropists, you capitalist pigdogs.

it costs nothing to visit ipodlounge, also it costs nothing to get this new guide. what sort of idiot are you?

Yes, there will be advertising in the Buyers’ Guide and yes it is free for anyone to download. It is completely free. Instead of going out and paying for a magazine, we offer the same content for free. Advertising is used so that we -can- provide the Guide for free to our readers.

I love capitalism, it allows me to make a living doing what I love to do… making the best iPod resource on the ‘net. If you purchased an iPod, you’re contributing to capitalism.

iPodlounge can’t please all the people all the time, but we really try and I think it shows.

Escuse the term but… Woot to capitalism!  Also, did you say worlds best readers?  I think you did.  Thanks for the compliment man!

but your articles wont be biased by who advertises there?

Hey, you guys are great!
Advertising is fine with me, half of my reason to buy wired magazine is because of the ads.
Keep up the good work, it’s much appreciated.

Our content is never biased by who advertises, nor will it ever be. That’s just plain WRONG.

It’s funny how people complain about free products.

Posted by Lau in Irvine, CA on October 11, 2004 at 4:18 PM (CDT)

macworld has advertisers, complain to them because they actually SELL their magazine after getting money from advertisers.

Me seeing an ad does not bother me, someone has to pay for the server bandwidth.

Awesome that iPodLounge is putting this type of thing out. I’m always referring to the review sections before I buy and iPod accessory. I also have to say they reviews are right on the money too.

Is the buying guide going to recommend the purchase of 4G iPods while the audio defect is still unsolved and unacknowledged by Apple? How could you recommend purchasing a product that has a good chance of being defective?

Will it have large pictures of the products? Will it have a software section? How about a price guide for used g1, g2, and g3 iPods.

Hey, longtime iPodLounge fan/reader.

Would it be possible to also post a non-PDF version—say an HTML version?  I personally think Adobe Acrobat Reader is terrible (especially on windows, ugh).

I’ll probably end up downloading it either way, but seeing as how I (and most people?) probably won’t be printing it, I’d really prefer to browse through it in a browser rather than a clunky and slow document reader.

Playlist Club people ( say well done iPodLounge for offering valuable information to iPod fans at no charge.

We support the creation and fostering of a community.

As for taking ads and sponsorship - listen everyone, how do we get to do what we want to do, feed our families and offer our communities so much for free without help from people?

None of us are eccentric millionaires, so please go easy - we have to pay to deliver the information (in iPodlounge’s case) and events (in Playlist Club’s case) that we hope you like.

Advertising and sponsorship are one way to achieve this - it’s allowing such deals to affect editorial that blows. And believe us, iPodlounge stays objective.

Good for them. It’s rarer and rarer to find objectivity these days.

Well done, iPodlounge.

pigdog just shows that somebody is a holy grail fan… groundbreaking humour (from the mid seventies!!)

BTW, I love ipodlounge, it’s one of my most visited sites (every *boring* work day is spent periodically checking in).

I’m behind you horrid, greedy capitalists! :)

Talk about slow! Hey people, if you think ipodlounge is so great, how come they post silly stories like “Man eats roaches for iPod” instead of giving us the skinny on the NEW 60G 6TH GENERATION photo iPOD coming out in 60 days!
