Perhaps not surprisingly, iLounge’s servers have been slammed by readers during the holidays, and we’re working behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. Even if the servers are slow, don’t forget: you can still download the free iLounge Buyers’ Guide 2004 to read offline, including our reviews of all the best iPod accessories and new iPod hardware!

Come on guys! It’s not just the holidays…this site is slow all year long.
Forget the VIC-20…at least bump it up to a Commodore-64, or better yet an Amiga.

I have to agree about the constant slowness. I was amazed that I went into the forums a few weeks back and only saw one other person complaining about slowness.
Do the site admins even realize this is a problem? Or do they really think its just something happening now because of the holidays?

Regarding the Guide, it’s on a separate and dedicated server, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
Regarding the site, yes, there’s a “problem”, and worse yet, it’s a moving target.
If you saw a chart of the site’s growth over the past year, you’d see that there have been dramatic traffic jumps that have preceded and followed each of our server expansions. Over and over again. And if you saw the specs on our server expansions, you’d know that we aren’t kidding around (though I dig the VIC-20 and C-64 references). We’re throwing serious hardware at the site, and also making some moves behind the scenes to reduce pressure on that hardware.
The site’s slowness is neither as terrible and constant as it could be, not as infrequent (or non-existent) as it should be. It looks like we’re going to be looking for yet another host to better accommodate the heavy volume.

Thanks for the update Jeremy. I realize the popularity of this site and also realize that its growth is going to continue to be inline with that of the iPod itself. I am glad you are looking into other solutions and will wait patiently.
Thanks for replying and great job on the buyer’s guide.
