iLounge Triple Crown Giveaway Begins

All Contests Closed: The Desktop and iPod Style Contests are now closed for judging. No further entries can be uploaded to the galleries. We will announce all winners by tomorrow, August 6th at 12 pm PT/3 pm ET. Thank you for your patience.

Important Update (*): We’re ratcheting up the stakes even higher. As of today, there are now two prizes for the iPod Style Contest (see below). Our new Super Prize winner will receive iLounge’s official, just-released 4G 20GB iPod review unit. (This unit is being tested and being treated with the ultimate care during our review process. Everything included in the original box will be re-packed and appear as new as possible.) The iPod Style contest’s Second Prize winner will receive a new iPod mini.

Thank you to for sponsoring this giveaway with three iPod minis.

We’re mixing things up with this month’s iLounge giveaway, with one brand new iPod mini to give away two weeks from now, and two more to follow two weeks later.

Ten questions, one mini

This portion of the giveaway is now CLOSED to entries, but you can still help iLounge learn about its readers by filling out the survey. Thank you.

Two galleries, two minis*

We’re launching a new photo gallery and ramping up an old favorite. Two talented people will receive brand new iPod minis for submitting the best entries* for these galleries, and we’ll pick the winners four weeks from now.

Desktop Wallpaper Gallery The sky’s the limit in iLounge’s Desktop Wallpaper Gallery, which has previously featured iPod-themed desktop/wallpaper images for computers. We’ll give away one iPod mini to our favorite new Desktop Wallpaper submission, which can be photographic, artistic, or whatever you like - so long as it meets the pixel requirements (1600x1200 or widescreen 1280 x 854 - 300k maximum file size) and includes the name somewhere in the image. You have virtually unlimited creative freedom, so make your entry funny, serious, subtle, or strong.  Entrants may also use photos from any of our photo galleries to design your desktop, but only for this iLounge contest. Check out our current iPod desktop wallpaper collection for inspiration.

If you like, you can download the iLounge logo for your use in your Desktop art.

    New iPod Style Gallery
By popular demand, we’re launching iLounge’s newest photo gallery, the iPod Style Gallery, designed to let users submit photos of people with iPods that show at least one of three things: fashion, style, or sex appeal. The rules are simple: iPod Style pictures may not be comical or graphically explicit, must include an iPod, and may not be Photoshopped (besides cropping, brightness, and color adjustment). Other than that, anything goes. We’ll leave it to you to decide what’s fashionable, stylish, or sexy: silk shirts or suntan lotion, club scenes or summer beach photos - anything will be considered so long as it catches the eye. *We’ll give away a just-released fourth-generation (20GB) iPod to our Super Prize winner, and a new-in-box iPod mini to our Second Prize Winner.* Pixel requirements: submit in 640x480 - 150k maximum file size, and please be prepared to submit a higher resolution (1600x1200) version as well upon request.

I agree with Lupin III, looking at some of shots submitted portrays the ipod in a lower class context.  However, I guess every person and every culture has a different definition of “sexy”.

Posted by ckchui on July 28, 2004 at 2:39 PM (CDT)

i have to agree, too.
There comes really NO sexappeal along with those cheap silicon-boob-porno-fotos… they are just CHEAP and in NEITHER ANY WAY sexy NOR stylish!

Hmm.. I hope I’m still “allowed” (or able) to join the competition because i won the second price last time with the help promote ipodlounge contest.. :)

Is it actually possible to be the winner in the desktop AND stylefoto contest at the same time? i.e. I win the 1st price in the desktop contest and win the 2nd (or 1st) price in the fotostyle contest? Would you then win 2 Ipods??? :O wow that would be too cool :)

Everybody has a different preference when it comes to what is sexy and what isn’t. There is nothing wrong with any of those photo’s posted in the style section. Nothing ad agencies haven’t been using for years. I could understand if they were tasteless but I have not seen that. They asked for sex appeal and then said you decide what you think is sexy. I don’t see anyone complaining about the obviously boring or crappy self important pictures posted yet.

I noticed something interesting today. Out of nowhere a few files have like 100 votes with 4 or 5 stars in both the style and desktop areas. Some very good pieces only have like 20 or 30 votes, some even less, but these few have hundreds of views and high ratings…......hmmm….......

I haven’t got any responses from Dennis. I replied to the WINNING email I got from him. He was asking what color mini I wanted. I responded and asked if he needed any other info. Have gotten no response so far. :(

don’t worry about the ratings, that’s not how the winner is picked, the site administrators pick the winners.

Posted by enig on July 29, 2004 at 6:55 PM (CDT)

People have been voting tacticaly and horribly in the Desktop section. Mine got quite afew votes (non by me :)) and dropped suddenly from 4.5 to 2.5, which means some one is voting low on purpose and multiple times. This is so sad :( That poeple would stoop to such a level for an iPod. Sad. I (as stated above) have refraned from voting completly, and even if I do start voting, it will only be to give wallpapers which ar good, what they desrve, and not the other way around. I hope ratings don’t play any part in the selection process (even though mine is amoung the highest rated wallpapers there (the one with the nature drawings))

Yes, the votes are a opinion poll, not the real contest decision makers.  So with that, all you people erasing your info and re-voting/ re-“viewing” are wasting your time. Give up already.  If anyone here is worried about their piece not winning to the point of trying to influence the vote, their piece must not really be winning material….

So why is that famous “Top rated” all about then. I suggest the admins to stop it, couse’ the only thing which is doing there is “Give 5 for mine, give 0 for others”. And one more other thing. There is so many pictures with the motto: See my big boobs…
and others like that. It’s all about the style, not the nudity…
P.S. Sorry for my English…. ;-)

Posted by MarlboroMan on July 30, 2004 at 11:57 AM (CDT)

What your not seeing is the hidden button “Worst rated”, this is how they will pick the winner.  hehehe….

The “Top rated” is just a feature of coppermine gallery, I’m sure they won’t be picking via user ratings since it is easy to cheat.

Posted by nothinglower on July 30, 2004 at 1:26 PM (CDT)

Did they, or did they not, ask for “sex appeal”? Sounds like people on here are whining because their entry might lose out to “sex appeal”.

i just uploaded 4 different series (me on my bed, 2 series with some kind of fashion style in the fields and one serie with an oldtimer)
Anyway they are not in the gallery yet, is it because i’m not allowed to participate because i did neither show my Xss nor my bXXbs? ;-)
however… this must be the first time I hear MEN complaining about too much nudity! :)
but i have to agree with you guys, iPod is about style…!

oh, sorry for the double post, i was wondering why my comment did’n show up after submitting but then i saw the tiny “next” button :)

Isn’t the Top Rated spot the link for the winning photo? Top Rated by ipodlounge, not top rated by views and votes?

who wins?

Posted by sdfds on August 5, 2004 at 10:40 AM (CDT)

I’m real suprised that there were so many more desktop entries than style, especially after the announcement of a 4G ipod. There are some pretty nice designs and photos though, and quite a variety of ideas,  (some very odd and disturbing).
Cant wait to hear the results!

Posted by Lupin III on August 5, 2004 at 1:13 PM (CDT)

I submitted 5 of my photos, and they were very good.  I just can’t understand how a picture with a cat in it (which doesn’t even follow the rules of the contest) could make it, but my five couldn’t…its all very confusing.  I even submitted them twice just incase I did soemthing wrong…and pic on the website!!
