iLounge’s first 4G iPod review arrives today
To commemorate Apple’s launch of the fourth-generation iPod, and to thank all of our readers for their patience, iLounge will be posting its first review of the new 20GB and 40GB models later today, Friday, July 23, 2004.
Like our prior first review of the iPod mini, titled the Newbie Review, iLounge’s first fourth-generation review, conclusions, and product rating will be geared towards first-time iPod buyers. A subsequent review geared towards more experienced users (the Power Users’ Review) will follow shortly thereafter.
These reviews will also mark the launch of iLounge’s new product rating system, which will replace our prior Excited / Happy / It’s OK / Sad icons with a more versatile letter grading system, featuring A, B, C, D and F with plus and minus marks. We have been planning for this change for some time, and you will soon see its benefits in an easier-to-use report card for all currently released iPods and accessories. We’ll look forward to your thoughts and comments.

Personally, I prefer the rating with Excited / Happy / It’s OK / Sad icons. You have to keep in mind that other countries have other rating systems at school, so people outside the US don’t necessarily understand the A to F system.
Besides that the icos are fun.

Is it really wise to announce the reviews like this? Surely you are going to cause a flood of people trying to find them and endlessly clicking the refresh button?

4G 4Lif: That F- might have been because you don’t know how to use contractions.

Trying to create anticipation for a review by announcing it early is really pathetic. Any other site would just release the review when it’s ready and be done with it.

Hey fellas,
Just got my 4g in the mail all the way from China and it came 3 days early. It is simply amazing, of course I am upgrading from the 1G to the 4G, the 1G still works by the way. But the 4G is everything I could have wanted. I got my girlfriend the mini when they first came out and i have to say the size and design of that is gorgeous but the size restraints forced me into a full size model. But now that I hold it in my hands its amazing. Cant wait for the review.

Thanks for keeping us updated as you go. If Apple would have done the same, there wouldn’t have been as many returned 3G’s! I know your review will help me in deciding if I should return my 3G or if I should just stick with it until the 5G. So, thanks for all of your hard work (and playing) that you do in order to help out guys like me. I appreciate it!

Has anyone else experienced lock-ups of their new click-wheel iPod? I’ve naturally been dumping tons of music onto it, but it has locked up on me requiring the Menu + Select reset twice now.
I’ve done similarly large iPod fill-ups onj a 3rd gen unit with never a problem on the same system.
My PC: WinXP 3.2 GHz 1 GB RAM, 40 GB iPod 4th gen, FiWi connection to the dock.
Curious if anyone else has seen issues like this.
