iLounge’s Holiday iPod Photo + iPhone nano Concept Contests

This contest is now closed for judging. Winners will be announced in the 2008 Buyers’ Guide on November 1.
Every year, iLounge publishes a new iPod and accessories Buyers’ Guide. On November 1, 2007, iLounge will release our 2008 Buyers’ Guide, and 6 lucky contest winners will be announced inside.
We have two contests for this year’s edition. The first is The Holiday iPod Photo Contest, for readers with photographic talents, and the second is The iPhone nano Concept Contest, for readers with art skills. This year’s prizes include deluxe Ultimate Ears earphones, Geneva Lab speakers, and three brand new iPods!

Holiday iPod Photo Contest: Submit a photograph (minimum 1600 pixels wide) that fits within the broad theme of “an iPod or iPods during the December holidays.” We are looking for artistic, well-composed, and original photography - do not steal others’ photos for submission. No image editing is permitted other than to crop and color balance your shot. iLounge’s editors will pick our three favorites from the pool of valid entries. You must submit your name and location (city/country) with your photo in order to qualify.
Top Entry Prize: (1) Ultimate Ears’ custom-fit top-of-the-line UE-11 Pro Earphones (US$1,150), courtesy of Ultimate Ears.
Second Place Prize: (1) Ultimate Ears’ universal fit top-of-the-line triple.fi 10 Pro Earphones (US$400), courtesy of Ultimate Ears.

Why are all of these iPhone Nano a smaller version of the iPhone with the same/very similar functionalities? It is not supposed to be iPhone Gen2.
Nano version should be simpler with less capabilities as a phone (not a smartphone). Maybe just phone, sms and iPod Nano functionalities. Otherwise, it will erode the iPhone market.

I disagree. The iPhone Nano doesn’t necessarily have to have less features. Look at the iPod Nano… it pretty much has the same features as the iPod classic.
In the case of the iPhone, it’s clear that the first gen iPhone left a lot to be desired (see iLounge’s review or a bunch of other reviews). If anything, the iPhone Nano should fix the deficits in the iPhone and include MORE capabilities to show improvement over the last product.
When and if an iPhone nano comes out, I expect a 2G iPhone to come out as well so it won’t be a case of the iPhone nano being ahead of the iPhone.

A better comparison is Nano to Touch, not Classic. It is clear that Classic and Nano is essentially the same with the exception of storage size (and physical size; hence play time capacity as well).
If iPhone represents something similar, in this particular comparison to Touch, then iPhone Nano should compare to iPod Nano.
As for 3G being a differentiator, it does not make much sense. I would fully expect both versions to have same cellular connection capability.

I submitted several designs last night around 6PM… just wanted to make sure that they were received since I don’t see them up in the gallery yet and the contest is now closed
. I got the “successfully uploaded” dialogues so hopefully they were in.
Thanks for the great contest iLounge!

I think that the rule about having to submit your name and location for the Holiday iPod Photo contest should have been in the Official Rules section if you are going to disqualify people who didn’t put it in the “description” box.
