Although Apple has not yet officially stated the time when iOS 6 will be released today, unconfirmed reports have claimed that it will become available at 1:00pm ET, or 10:00am PT.
As the update will be a significant change to iOS devices, with the risk of installation-related issues, we would strongly recommend that you take the time now to back up any devices that will be receiving the update. iTunes and over-the-air update options will likely be available, and we’ll update this article when the official release takes place.

OTA update is available now, but says it requires 2.4 GB of free space. I think I’ll wait this one out and do the update through iTunes once the smoke clears.

I have an Iphone 4S 16GB. I had made 1.5 GB of space available to download IOS 6. When I went to download it, it said I need 2.5 GB. I deleted Garage Band, 2.4 GB of space used on my iphone, with about 15 songs I had made(also have them on my 64GB Ipad 3, so it did not really matter) and did the download. Took about 50 minutes total and IOS 6 installed with no problems. Now it is restoring about 14000 photos, which will take I estimate 3-4 hours. The weird thing is I am now showing 3.9GB of free space, which is approx what i started with after I deled Garage Band. My Ipad just got done and another clean install. Had approx 7.3 GB before and the same after. Woo Hoo!!
