The Spotlight search on iOS devices now provides results for certain emoji. Searching with the hamburger emoji, for example, provides a list of nearby burger joints in Maps. Searching using the dress or pants emoji returns Maps results for clothing stores, while a dress shirt with a tie emoji curiously returns results for clothing retailer apps before the Maps listings.
Searching the stack of American cash emoji returns results for nearby banks, but searching the stack of yen or Euros only provides web results.
Some of the results are pretty useful. A search of the train emoji guided us to schedules for the local train lines, the car emoji came up with rental car options, and the taxi emoji yielded phone numbers for taxi services (albeit after App Store results for taxi-themed games). Searching weather emoji gives you the current weather in your location and suggests some weather-related web results.
Food emoji seem particularly well integrated, with even fruit and vegetable selections providing suggestions for local grocery stores and juice bars. Let us know if you see any other interesting results. [via Cult of Mac]
