all New york stores are sold out across the state

If most locations are out of them, you could probably report them to the BBB…it falls under “bait and switch.” Can’t say it would have much effect, other than to get some complaints on record, though. They may offer you some form of raincheck though if you threaten.
And a “while supplies last” doesn’t necessarily make it not a bait and switch. If they put them on sale knowing they did not have the stock to meet demand, then it becomes a gimmick to get you in-store (and hopefully you’ll buy something else…anything else).

K.Y.,
Was it actually brand new, and did it include the dock, carrying case, and remote? Thanks!

I called my local store in Glen Burnie, Maryland (the Rockville store did not answer) and asked them to check the stock at the Rockville store and they said neither had one.
Did they have alot of the “old” ones or just alot of the 15gb models that may have looked the same???
Thanks,
Scott

hey xlyrikalx your an idiot. i went into the circuit city store and the price match only applies to the in store price not the “online price only” price that compusa offers. they call and verfiy the actual in store price.

Hey guys, I found one store had one in stock. I drove 40 minutes, for them to tell me that they no longer have any of the models. I said that I had the invoice printed and I wanted to leave with an iPod for $230. The asst. manager said he could not sell it to me, so he told me to contact corporate office. I contacted the corporate office and filing a complaint.
Hopefully I can get some sort of raincheck or gift card out of this. I mean, if it says in stock, and they tell me to pick it up, I should be able to get it.

I bought mine 5 days ago at Best Buy, they have a 110 % price guarantee, I m going tomorrow to see if they’ll hold true to that!
let’s see :D If not, oh well, so I overpaid, it happens in life sometimes…. y’all should not worry, you have an iPod, that’s pretty awesome

After getting the run around from the people at the CompUSA ecommerce division and the manager at the local store; I sent a letter to their corporate office complaining about false advertising and bait and switch tactics. I am waiting for a response back. If I do not get one by the end of the week, a letter is going to the BBB and the Consumer Protection Agency. If they advertise a product for sale they need to honor the advertisement. At least they can indicate on the web site the offer is no longer valid.

I bought one yesterday at full price from MicroCenter here in Chicago. I just called after reading the news here about the discounted price at CompUSA. The manager at MicroCenter agreed to match the price.
Seriously you guys, just have the Circuit City or Best Buy folks check online. It’s NOT AN ONLINE PRICE. IT’S AN IN-STORE ONLY PRICE. So they *should* honor their price matching policies, regardless of whether or not CompUSA has them in stock. Don’t go chasing the CompUSA stock around. That’s not where your deal is. Just go get that discount at the other stores.
Thank goodness for this topic, though! I just saved a wad!

Oh—- and one more thing to the guy who bought at CompUSA. What’s the time limit on their return policy? If it’s 30 days, only speak to a manager and remind him that
a) they will have to put it back out as open stock with a discounted price
AND
b) it’s already been initiated to a machine once (tick tock)
Therefore it only makes sense to honor the price difference policy. He can either give it to you, or eat it in the store. And if he chooses the latter, go get the price match deal elsewhere.

i agree, go to Best Buy bring the add and save another 10% !!! on the ipod since they have 110% price guarantee! now that s a sweet deal, better than the CompUSA

K.Y.
Thanks for the reply.
As far as the price matching goes, from what I remember the only way to get a price match was if the store with the lower price had the item in stock. I could be wrong but that was how it was when I use to work at Compusa, but BB and CC may be different.

Also one of the main problems with the price matching is the fact that the model numbers do not match. The one from Comp is: M8946LL/A and the CC one is: M9460LLA.
You just have to hope that the CS rep does not look at the model number.

Well kids, it’s gone. The CompUSA page is history. Sucksville. Hopefully someone got a hold of an in-store circular or something.
