In the article, I noticed this as being a “fix”:

“Improved handling of MP3 VBR songs.”

Unfortunately, I see this as a problem for 1st/2nd-gen iPods as well.  There are some songs I simply cannot play.  However, I’m holding out hope that this gets fixed in a future firmware version.  Oh well.

It’s worth noting that the online petition asking Apple to update the firmware for first and second generation iPods has now passed the 3500 signature mark.  Owners of first and second generation iPods who haven’t yet signed the petition can do so here: http://www.petitiononline.com/ipoduser/petition.html

It also seems that the recording feature is also gone. This is a pity, considering that many of us had expected Apple to move ahead with this feature, possibly including a record to MP3 feature, not backwards.

When downloading the iPod update, you are given the choice to “update” or “restore.”  I opted for update, which appears to have loaded successfully.  However, it appears the window for the download will not close unless I also choose “restore.”  I am reluctant to “restore,” because it erases all current content.  Are we required to “restore” in order for the download to be complete?  And if we restore, will the current content be reloaded from iTunes after putting the iPod back in its dock?  ( I have the 30 GB version, which comes with a dock.)  Any help here would be appreciated.  Thanks.

i dun think we have to do the restore to be able to update.  However, i dunno how to fix the problem :( I Just hit the update button, and it automatically work. But one thing for sure that u dun have to hit the restore button.

When you press [Restore] you are rewarded with an invigorating light show, I was suprised that Apple cared.
