With more than 4,000 votes from iLounge readers, our most recent poll — “How long has it been since you bought your earliest iPod/iPhone?” — has ended. Readers were able to choose from lengths of time varying between 7 years and less than a year, with a separate option for readers that don’t own an iPod or iPhone.

Many respondents were long-time iPod users: more than a third of respondents said that they’ve owned an iPod for four years or more. Specifically, 9% said they purchased the original iPod seven years ago, 8% said they got their first iPod six years ago, and 18% said they’ve owned an iPod for five years. The largest number of readers — 19% — said they purchased their first iPod four years ago, while another 14% said they’ve owned an iPod for three years. The number of users who said they’ve owned an iPod or iPhone for one or two years was equal, with each receiving 6% of the vote, while 15% of readers said they’ve owned one of the devices for less than a year, and 4% said they don’t own an iPod or iPhone. (Yes, we’re also surprised.) Thanks for your responses!

Our new poll focuses on the iPhone. We’d like to know what feature currently missing from the device you’d most like to see added. Is copy & paste on your wishlist, or perhaps MMS messaging? Or maybe you’d like it to record video, or wirelessly sync with iTunes? Maybe Adobe Flash is most important to you, or perhaps A2DP stereo Bluetooth, or some other feature? The latest iLounge poll, “Which missing iPhone feature would you most like to see implemented?” lets you answer that question. As always, the iLounge Poll is on the left hand column of the main iLounge.com home page. Cast your vote today!

Although I voted for Copy&Paste;support, one thing that might be incredibly useful is the ability to use the landscape keyboard in more applications!

MMS seems to be a huge sticking point while other just say use email.
I was at an ATT store this morning and 2 potnetial iphones walked out empty handed when they confirmed MMS was not a feature.
they didn’t ask about bluetooth, cut and paste whether or not google streets were on the phone or if you could had the option to down load a tip calculator.
Their next stop was verizon.
It was funny to see their expression on their faces when the sales associate should them how to retrieve the picture.
Them: I can receive pictures directly on my 2 year old phone and I can’t receive it on this $300 phone?
Sales: You can receive the [icture if it is emailed.
Them: So people can’t message me?
Sales: Yes through email.
Them: Why can’t they just send it directly to my phone?
Sales: They can through email.
Them: My friend has ATT and I jsut send her a picture message is that email?
Sales: No that is MMS.
Them: Why doesn’t the iphone have MMS?
Me: I piped in and said yeah it seems kinda silly that the iphone doesn’t have MMS as a standard feature.
Sales: Then the sales associate asked, can I help you?
Yes you can by telling us why the iphone doesn’t have MMS as a standard feature.
Sales: it does it through email.
The customers walked out empty handed.

I marked “other” because the choice, “A2DP stereo Bluetooth,” doesn’t go far enough. At a minimum, iPhone also needs the Hands-Free Profile (HFP) and Phone Book Access Profile (PBAP). Devices like headsets and car kits would then be fully functional with iPhone… and iPhone would have some of the same Bluetooth functionality that rival mobile devices have offered for many years prior.

I voted for Copy & Paste, but my first choice would be to add a memo application on both the iphone and the mac os x like is on the palm platform.  I am using the notbook app, and it is ok, but I have to sync to Toodledo.

The Bluetooth option has been relabeled. We certainly wouldn’t want to see “improve Bluetooth” votes go into the “other” category, though there are definitely a few ways that the Bluetooth should be improved.

I had to vote for ‘Other’ because ‘Voice Dial—real voice dial, not app-based voice dial’ wasn’t an option.

Seriously, if I have to navigate to where an app is located, start the app, wait for it to be ready, THEN voice dial, I may as well just use Contacts or Favorites. I should be able to tap my headset button, say, “Call home” and have the damn thing phone home without me having to look at the screen several times while I’m driving. Why did my Sony-Ericsson T616 do this 5 years ago and the World’s Most Advanced Phone can’t do it now?

daverobeson (#6): The answer to your question is contained in my post (#3). I used to have a T616 also, and am equally boggled by the iPhone’s shortcomings in this area.

I voted “other.” I’m still annoyed by the lack of a “to do” list on the iPhone that will sync to Outlook.

I’d like to vote, but the last few polls haven’t shown up on my work Mac.  I’ll have to wait till I get home.  I’m in Japan and 1-Seg is a missing piece for the iPhone here.  Cut and paste would also be very helpful.

I had to vote “Other” as there’s no option for turn-by-turn driving instructions. Could this be added as an option please?

Having the first generation Iphone and the latest 3G Iphone as a second device I can compare the two. First and foremost I wish that the battery life was extended or that a replacement battery was an option, not some big/bulky device that is used as an extra battery. The iPhone should be made whereas when the battery dies, you can replace it with a new fresh battery. The IPhone has all these capabilities that can’t be assessed if you want to conserve your battery life. The 3G is kinda a joke because you have to be in a 3G network, just like WIFI, AT&T;controls the fiber optics lines and should have a very fast Edge Network, but we all know how that is.

The ability to email and text in landscape would be a HUGE advantage for those of us with bigger hands(i.e. men).  I find it much more easier, faster, and accurate to type this way.  MMS text messaging would be nice too, putting the iphone on par with every other phone currently on the market.
