Why wait? They already have multimedia handhelds, often for less than an audio-only iPod!
RCA Lyra
Video! Nice and slim, but a bit wide.

Archos AV
Nicest video player/recorder of the lot (mainly bcos it’s their second-gen video handheld). But pricier than all the rest. Very sweet though.

Another ArchosAV review:
http://www.mp3newswire.net/stories/2003/archosav320review.html
“Calling the Archos AV320 an iPod on steroids is more than an understatement simply because the iPod is not yet in this class. Word is an iPod mediabox is in the works, but until that happens it is the iPod that aspires to be the Archos AV320.”

All this kid has done is copy the form factor and look and feel of the EXISTING video RCA Lyra. Compare and contrast, while you wait for Apple to grant you a video iPod, suckers!

It would be nice if these mock-ups had some basis in realistic engineering and economics. Of course I’d like all these super features in a tiny package with great battery life for $200.

When I follow the link that RCA video player is $400. I don’t think you could get it for $200, but if you do know someplace, tell me!

I just threw out the $200 number in the spirit of “as long as we’re dreaming.”

That is very cool! The docking stand allows it to be used as a television monitor too. I like it!
