iPod chipmaker sued over patent
“US chip developer Cirrus Logic confirmed it had filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the company [Wolfson Electronics], which designs and supplies integrated circuits for use in a variety of hi-tech devices such as DVD players, games consoles and digital cameras. [...]
The lawsuit also seeks damages and asks the court to bar Wolfson from making, selling or importing the products into the US.”

so what does this mean to the future of the iPod?

It means that either Wolfson pay up a load of money to Cirrus, or they stop making the chip. Apple will probably start buying from Cirrus instead or switch to another chip entirely. It’ll probably lead to some sort of hardware revision for the iPod which shouldnt be too significant though.
