iPod discount for Federal Employees

If you are a Federal Employee, you can purchase an iPod for personal use (click on ‘How To Buy’). Certain restrictions apply, so read the fine print. The discount is the same amount as the Educational discounts (which is found at www.apple.com/education). The 10GB iPod is $269, 20GB $359 and the 40GB is $449.

Actually, that’s better than education discount, which is $269, $369, $469.

In the old days, a teacher had to send in a form, signed by her/his principal, to verify that s/he really was a teacher. Now a teacher is only required to find her/his school listing on the Apple Store website and agree (click a button) to a statement which says s/he is a teacher at that school. Apple could decide to do it either way with Federal employees.

I’m a federal employee. I got the discount, but they didn’t require a verification besides my word. I guess it’s on the honor system. Like I posted, you have to agree (by clicking on the I Agree button.) that you are bound to the terms and read the fine print. If Apple has a huge influx of govt employee sales, they have reserved the right to deny the discount if they suspect non-compliance with the terms.

Considering the 40GB iPod, it is cheaper to get it through Amazon.com because Apple.com charges to tax on your purchases. I guess you can’t get it engraved if you want though.
