iPod may be in short supply for Christmas
“‘We’ve taken our best guess, and we’re building a lot, but the demand may be even larger,’ said [Steve] Jobs, perched on a stool in trademark jeans and black mock-turtleneck shirt. ‘So if you want to be sure to get an iPod this holiday season, I’d get one soon.’
Jobs is planning for his best Christmas ever. With the possible exception of cave-dwelling arthropods, most everyone is getting into the music download game.”

In other news, Bill Gates announced that there will be a run on Windows MCE, and to make sure you get it soon before it runs out.
McDonalds announced they’re going to stop selling their beanie babies toys again, right after this month, which will stock them in limited supplies.
Michael Jordan also announced his retirement, again, so catch him playing BBall soon…
What better way to boost your own 3rd quarter sales than to announce a shortage.

Well, when Apple announces a shortage (iPod mini, G4 iMac, G5) THERE IS A SHORTAGE. They haven’t lied yet.

Wait. I thought we went in to liberate the Iraqis. And my neighbor thought it was because Saddam was supposedly abusing the Food for Oil program. I’m so confused.
Jobs is going to release a new iPod and wants the current ones off the shelves.

“some of you forget that apple wants your money and as any corporation isn’t against stretching the truth to make that extra buck.”
Like the US government or though they don’t so much stretch the truth as they do lie, Agent Orange perhaps there’s another reason for the war in Iraq to confuse you…
If they hadn’t announced a shortage and there was one, people would be ######## about why it wasn’t anounced, so can Apple win in this situation? (besides making more iPods??)

You people are kinda dumb! This would still sell the same number of units cause people who weren’t going to buy still aren’t going to buy, and the people who were going to buy will still buy, possibly sooner though.

Why does Apple always run short of popular items, thus diminishing their marginal profit?

“some of you forget that apple wants your money and as any corporation isn’t against stretching the truth to make that extra buck.”
Their reason for saying they are in short supply is not because they want people to rush buy, it is because they definitely will be in short supply at Christmas.
I am a manager of a large Apple reseller, and anyone in ‘the channel’ will tell you that Apple are ALREADY in short supply. They are in short supply of everything at the moment. I’m starting to get sick of telling customers they will have to wait a few weeks, or maybe even a few months, to get their products :(

How about it being a case of Apple ‘forgetting’ to add “In you face Microsoft, not only do we own 70% of the digital music market, we just cant shift iPods fast enough”?
