With an expected delivery/on-sale date of July 24, 2004, Apple has announced that it is now taking iPod mini pre-orders from customers across the world. Prices for the iPod mini differ by territory, and are as follows (including tax):
Continental Europe: 279 Euros (259-269 in certain countries, inc. Germany and Austria)
United Kingdom: 179 Pounds.
Japan: 28,140 Yen (26,800 Yen pre-tax).
Australia: A$399.
Canada: C$349 including the $15 Blank Media Levy, but excluding VAT.
Singapore: S$458 (excluding rebates).
Hong Kong: HK$1,900.
Of special interest: At current exchange rates, the pre-tax Japanese and non-tax Hong Kong prices for the iPod mini are actually slightly lower than the current American retail price, whereas other territories are receiving the mini at a slight premium. iPod mini ordering options and prices for mainland China, India, Latin America, Mexico and South Korea were not yet available.
Each iPod mini will include headphones, a power adapter, a belt clip, FireWire and USB 2.0 cables, and iTunes 4.6 for Mac and Windows. The same five colors (silver, blue, green, pink, and gold) previously introduced will be available internationally.
In a related story, Apple has announced the combined sale of over 1.5 million songs through its European iTunes Music Stores (U.K., France and Germany) since its launch on June 15, 2004. The rate of sales is slightly lower than the initial launch of the iTMS for United States-based Macintosh customers in April of 2003, following which two million songs had been sold by the 16th day of operations. Canadian, Latin American and Asia-Pacific region launches of the iTunes Music Store have not yet been announced.

“...the pre-tax Japanese price for the iPod mini (26,800 Yen) is actually slightly lower than the current American retail price, the only territory where the iPod mini is not being sold at a slight premium...”
Is FALSE. Just above this is the price for Hong Kong, HK$1900. The exchange rate is 7.8, so that works out to less than $244. And Hong Kong has NO sales tax, so that’s our final price. Good deal, eh?

Tonton: Fixed, and thanks. Blame Apple’s currency calculator for missing Hong Kong dollars.

okay..here’s my experience...i just ordered the mini with the educational discount here in Canada (10% off) thru apple.ca...then i called to confirm....the problem is the CSR said it’s going to take 4-6 WEEKS before shipping, which means the July 24 date is nothing but a scam!!!!!

AUD$399? The 15gig is AUD$449, so it’s a very small difference. Like US$30.
It’s probably cheaper to buy one from Amazon.com at the US$250, as it works out to AUD$360.

I thought it was Aus$370 for mini in Australia. Then Aus $375. Apple is not pricing there problem properly base on current rates. Australia $ is almost the same as Canada $, one time even better. No wonder not getting a lot of sale in their ipods here.

Australian price ipod mini should only Aus$347 at Aus$0.72 per US$ as today’s rate. I am just worndering where did Apple Corporate Accountants get their current conversion rate.

Holy crap! $399 (US$290) for a Mini here in Australia.
That’s just too cruel.
Apple hits Aus and the UK really hard.

i was so going to buy an iPod mini in australia, ive been waiting since march deciding if i wanted a 15gb or a mini, i was expecting the mini to be ~$375AUS, but receiving an email from Apple telling me the pre-order price was $399 is a joke… i think im going to see if the price will fall a little bit and if it doesnt then im just going to go buy a 15gb
