iPod outsells Macs
For the first time, the iPod has outsold Macintosh computers. “We feel great,” Steven P. Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, said in an interview. “We sold a lot of Macs, but we’ve sold more iPods in the quarter than all the Macs put together.”

That is a pretty good accomplishment I would say. It seems the popularity of the iPod is just continuing to grow…maybe eventually it will have a monopoly on the portable audio market??? That’s not a likely scenario, but you never know! Congrats to Apple!

Yeah, that’s because Apple put the computers in the back seat and concentrated on the iPod and iTMS.

And a monopoly is good? Check out the MS monster. Yeah, it’s good alright!

An accomplishment? I think considering the stagnant sales of Apple desktops, this is a wake up call for the company.

Yeah, if macs didn’t suck and weren’t only good for one purpose, then maybe more folks would buy them. Not to mention their price…...

If that one purpose is “work better than a PC” then yes, my mac is good for one purpose.

i fail to see how macs “work better than a PC” , especially for general computing use

Spend some time up dating the desktops and laptops. Get them a new look.

I agree with Red. I’ve only used a mac a couple of times but I’ve found that they are alot easier to use than Windows 2000 and alot faster (but then again my computer is absolute crap). I prefer macs over crappy windows machines.
The iPod thing makes absolute sense. I knew this would eventually happen. Music sells alot more than computers and so people want to take their music wherever they go.

Yes, this is true… as long as your PC is a goddam 486!

I’m f***ing tired of how this iPod forum so often becomed a damn Mac vs. Windows bashing site. Can’t all you whiners stick to the subject - iPods.

TimesUK
“In the last quarter of 1999, the company sold 1.35 million Macintosh pcs or, as Steve Jobs, the Apple chief executive boasted, ‘one Mac every six seconds’. The number sold in the most recent quarter was little more than half that number, although still up 5 per cent year on year.”

Yes, you are right. I shouldn’t have talked about how I like macs more than windows and I think we all should stick to the point, iPods.

That the iPod outsold macs in the past quarter should come as no surprise - the iPod is a significantly better product than any Macintosh computer.
It’s a no-brainer to suggest this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Market,
You make it sound like the ipod and mac are made by two different companies, let alone, trying to compare two products that are completely different in purpose.

Such comments are a display of your ignorance and asininity. The fact is each individual person will purchase whatever they choose. Plus the fact that some have and use both a PC and a Mac. So, does this make them half stupid?
Also Macs now have Windows software that is compatiable with the Apple computers. So your remake reflects on Macs users also. A PC used Windows and Macs didn’t, but now that they do, a person can purchase a Mac and have access to software they once needed a PC to use.
