Some factual reporting might be nice.  It’s David Jones, not Hones.  Also the stores listed are definitely not all high street. 
Target is low street, Myer is middle road and I have never heard of Megamart (it may not be national) - this from an Australian.

About time! I can only see this as a good thing, the more people get into digital music the better. Hope it pushes the music industry here in Australia to get their act together in terms of digital delivery. It’s a bloody disgrace at the moment.

db - Megamart is owned by Grace Brothers, oops, Coles Myer corporation. It’s basically a huge warehouse type store with furniture, tv, electricals etc… like Harvey Norman. I think Megamart is only in Sydney at this time.

I don’t understand the “high-street” comment.

No, Megamart is also in Melbourne. Hopefully we will see ipod accessories become available at these retailers too.

apple needs to work on making itunes store available to australians before worrying about tripe like this.

and until ipod’s come down significantly in price, i would never buy one from anyone except an apple store…i especially wouldn’t go into some dodgy target store to buy an ipod from some pimply high school student who hates his part time job and just wants to pick up his pay check and get the hell home.  and i’ve never even seen, let alone heard of a megamart store, in sydney or melbourne….must be pretty “highstreet” and “super”!!

coles myer discount card is only good till july, so you want a 15% storewide discount at target for a good price.

sw, makes no difference where you buy the iPod from if you do research on your product thoroughly, then you don’t have to rely on the ‘less than enthusiastic’ sales person. warranty is with apple anyway, not target. but you’re right about the iTunes store - maybe this is a sign that it is ready to roll if apple are expanding the distribution like this…!? hope so! anyway, if the are more shops selling more iPods, then maybe you’re more able to negotiate the prices at resellers?

megamart is in melbourne as a subset of myers, there are a couple around and a huge one in chadstone (not in the big complex) in melbourne.

Even though the Ipod is to be available in other stores, I wouldn’t bank on cheaper prices. So far they have only picked one distributor, ColesMyer. If it was available through Woolworths ie Dick Smith & Tandy then we might see some competition. If they wanted to sell loads of them cheap they would be going to someone like JB Hi-Fi. Also as for Target & K-mart with their 15% of store wide you will probably see the little excludes sign now mentioning “Excludes Ipod’s” like they do with all other low price up items such as Playstations & Xbox’s

there is a mega mart store in brisbane. i read in the newspapert that david jones was already selling them, they might of gotten it wrong though but i haven’t checked it out

There’s even a Megamart store here in Perth
David Jones has had the iPod for a few months.
The good thing about the iPod becoming available at Megamart is they pricematch…

high street = (UK) noun meaning main street, usually the largest main thoroughfare of a suburb, town or village.
