iPod saves soldier’s life in Iraq
A U.S. Army soldier in Iraq was saved by his iPod after the device took a bullet from an AK-47, according to a report and photos posted on Flickr.
“Kevin Garrad with the 3rd Infantry Division was patrolling the streets of Iraq when he rounded a corner and went face to face with a gun-toting insurance,” reports TG Daily. “Gun fire was exchanged and Garrad was hit in the chest. The insurgent was killed. At point blank range an AK-47 round is devastating and has a decent chance of passing through the Interceptor body armor vests used by Army soldiers, but the iPod apparently slowed the bullet enough to be stopped completely by Garrad’s vest.”

This story’s BS meter is off the charts. It’s on some dude’s flickr page and has all the hallmarks of an urban legend email forward. It’s almost like all those email forwards are authored by eighth grade dropouts.

What Apple clearly needs to do is get into iArmor to replace that Swiss cheese the guys use now.
Imagine a vest filled with iPods—full protection and 640G of music.

Smells fishy to this Soldier… Even at point blank range the AK bullet will not penetrate the body armor we wear if it strikes the chest. Moreover, the left chest pocket of the uniform he was wearing is under the body armor. Keeping an iPod there would be most uncomfortable and bad for the iPod. More likely, he had in in an ammo pouch on the outside of the vest. In which case the iPod died in vain because the body armor was going to stop the round anyway. Sorry but this one goes in the myth pile…

whoever wrote this fiction story was never hit by a bullet from AK-47 - In real life Kevin will have few broken ribs and internal organs damage - if you making up a story - make sure your story looks resonable
